I finally made it to Lotus Restaurant to try their famous Curry Rice! I ordered the chicken curry rice and another popular item, the strawberry tea float.
Okay, hear me out—I’m not a fan of strawberry-flavored drinks. I love the fruit itself, but I find the artificial taste of strawberry off-putting. I took a sip as soon as the drink arrived, and at first, I didn’t get it; I could taste the tea and strawberry separately. But once the ice cream started melting and I gave it a mix, I could taste the strawberry blend, and the more I drank, the more I liked it. Did this drink just change my perspective on strawberry flavors?
As for the curry rice, I have just one thing to say: it exceeded expectations. Many people had hyped it up, and it truly lives up to the hype. The curry was amazing, and the crispy chicken cutlet complemented the curry and rice perfectly. Now, anytime someone mentions Japanese curry, I’m bringing them here.
Next, I tried the green tea bun—a tea-infused bun with red bean filling. I expected it to be on the fluffier side, so I was surprised when it wasn’t. But with such a good red bean filling, I loved it regardless!
The tea float was 275, the chicken cutlet curry rice was 500, and the green tea bun was 55.

Read moreI’ve been here multiple times and this place just feels like home. The prices are pretty low in comparison to the large portions as well as considering the fact that they’re based in thamel. Their tuna sandwich is so simple yet i’d sell my soul for it. For some reason all their foods that i’ve tried have given me such comfort. The place is simple ,reminds me of 90s japan however it can be hot during summer .The snacks they have on display are also worth trying. The staffs don’t interact much which is nice for introverts like me however they’re always so sweet, willing to help in any way and always greeting with a smile on their faces. I adore this place with all my heart and recommend it to people who tilt towards...
Read moreThe dessert was the highlight, daifuku/mochi with red bean filling was the best I’ve had so far in Nepal. They also had ichigo daifuku which is strawberry and white bean filling in mochi. I had omu rice with veg curry, sadly it wasnt like the ones you see online as the omelette was slightly over cooked and the curry itself was a bit salty; I think they used too much of the japanese curry cube.
The restaurant is small and quaint, furniture is rather old but there is character and feels like a local gem when you enter.
You can buy various japanese and nepal made goods, including buddhist paintings, japanese toys, homemade jam and more.
