I really enjoyed Utse. The staff were all lovely and the rooms were great. Whenever we were in Kathmandu we chose to stay at Utse. ||||We were a group of 18 and they were easily able to accommodate us for a good price. ||||They have hot water (it may take a while to run) which is unlike many other places we stayed at in Nepal (which only have lukewarm water). Utse is also located in Thamel and is close to lots of attractions including the garden of dreams and durbar square. The rooms in Utse were nice, each one was slightly different in a different way. Some had bigger bathrooms, some the water didn't drain properly after the shower, some had a light which turned on every time the generator did (which happens a lot in Kathmandu as there are many power cuts). The only probelm we had was the noise. There is no inslution so every sound can be heard, people talking quietly in the room next door or motorbikes on the street below, but everywhere is like that so it was alg. Overall they were some of the best we stayed it. ||||The rooftop garden is a great place to sit and watch the sunset over much of Kathmandu. It's very peaceful and also a nice way to people watch on the street below. ||||The restaurant downstairs is also amazing and needs to be tried on any trip to Nepal. Utse is located in the heart of the tourist district and about a 30min drive to the airport. I think it has a lot of value for money and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay. It has a lot of character and makes you feel homey in a place...
Read moreWe recently spent several nights at the Utse hotel both at the start and end of a months stay in Nepal. Due to Covid and the 'off season' the hotel was very quiet but still run to the same high standards that we have become used to over twenty five years. The rooms are spotless and the delux one we stayed in (which was excellent value for money) had received a very high standard of refurbishment during the lockdowns. The bathroom (whilst previously fine for us) is now of an excellent standard with hot water, a little dependent on solar at times but fine for our needs. There is heating and TV if required and extra duvets which are needed in December. The rooftop garden is still a delightful place to sit and relax in the winter sun. Deepak and the team were so helpful during our last few days in assisting us with pre departure paperwork and pcrs. We were also a little unwell on our last day (From another restaurant) but we were able to order exactly what we wanted from the kitchen (potato, boiled egg, pancakes) whilst we were recovering. Everyone at the Utse is so kind and helpfu, it will always be our home...
Read moreReturning to the wonderful Hotel Utse was an exquisite experience. Having been there several times during prior Nepal journeys, there was no question that I would spend part of my honeymoon in this magnificent location. The most positive memories are of the Utse staff. Their hospitality, warmth, and helpfulness created the perfect conditions for entering Nepali and Tibetan culture itself. On top of that, the renowned restaurant on the ground floor continues to be a culinary jewel that has been offering outstanding food for many decades now. It is truly a must for any visitor to Kathmandu to indulge in the variety of Nepali and Tibetan dishes they offer. The roof terrace, finally, is an oasis in the bustling Thamel area. From the juniper scent on the ground floor, to the flowers and pine tree on the top floor...this extraordinary hotel and restaurant is more than just a recommendation, it is a solid marker of bliss and...
