Best Momos in Thamel - no competition. This place is the definition of a hole in the wall - we came here based on google reviews and literally walked off the back alley, through a garden, in front of someone's house which they are claiming to be this restaurant, but so worth it. Just absolutely fantastic momos. We literally compared every other momo we had to these for the rest of our trip, and nothing came close! Anjana - was the owner of this place, a literal mom and pop restaurant, they were making everything fresh to order - because of that, if you have a large order, be prepared to wait. We showed up with 18 people, and the wait was a little long for our food, but so worth it. In my opinion the lamb momos were the best! I would suggest you mix it up and get some gravy momos, some steamed, and then some half steamed half fried, I personally did not like the fried momos, but I also don't gravitate towards fried foods for the most part. The half steamed half fried were perfect as they were soft and crunchy! We will definitely be coming back here, and I wish all the success for Anjana because they are so sweet and the food is that good!

We recently finished off the Annapurna Circuit and ended up eating here both before AND after our trek. It was 5 mins walk from our hotel in Thamel, down a small side street. We had plenty of momos during our trek and none of those compared to the ones at Newa Momo Restaurant. Their dough is nice and thin with a variety of juicy fillings. We learned that the owner and her partner have been doing this for over two decades and they make everything to order. We were sorry to hear about the bad reviews, but this is not a place for backpackers rushing for fast food. Food made in a haste can get you sick. You can tell that this food is made with love and care. We were so impressed with their food that we ended up taking a cooking class from the owner during our last afternoon in Kathmandu. We definitely appreciated all the hard work that went into their food after the cooking class. We decided to learn to make their samosas and vegetarian momos. The owner is a very patient and encouraging teacher. She also gave us tips for different momos (meat and dessert). We definitely recommend this place to eat in Thamel.

The best momos I had during my 1 month in Nepal. They seem to make them fresh to order, so expect a bit of a wait for them to come out (my 2 plates took about 15 minutes, which were ordered soon after the only other table at the time also ordered 2 plates). Momos are bite sized with a very nice thin skin and dense filling for their size. Highly recommend the fried chocolate momos as a dessert. The chili versions are also nice if you're wanting a saucier option - sweet, slightly tangy, and moderately spicy. Service was also friendly and the restaurant seems to be run by a couple.

The lovely little spot is tucked away down an unassuming side street, and thanks to the modern luxury of Google searching we happened upon it. Absolutely loved the momos! They are freshly made, and super savoury & come with this delicious garlicky hot sauce — which I would’ve bought a whole bottle of if I could! Note — they are small but mighty with flavour. The chef was very warm and welcoming, and it really felt like I was being hosted in a home. It’s cozy, and simple and the food is made with love. Would recommend to anyone!

This place is a hidden gem of Thamel. Truly homemade food with warm home atmosphere and authentic Newari meals (not only mo:mo!). Visit in this place should be mandatory for every tourist in Kathmandu. The owners couple is speaking English very well, the place has Wi-Fi, electricity sockets to charge Your phone and washroom. Local is spacious. Not so straightforward to find it but not not so difficult to do so either. 10/10 would recommend to everyone.

Our first meal in Nepal was here, since then we’ve returned at least 4 times. The family that runs it is so kind and slings some seriously flavourful food! Everything we’ve had is a 5 star dish, but the show stopper is the Shakshuka (not pictured because it was inhaled before documentation could be gathered). Still having dreams of how delicious that is! It’s tucked away off a Main Street, so you can just sit & relax. Don’t sleep on this spot!
