Casa Peru - fabulous food and atmosphere 5* Update June 17 2025 Back for another treat during this visit to Amsterdam. Abel to sit outside right over/next to the Prinsengracht - watching all the boats and fun people go by… from the tasty Chicken soup to the superb lamb stew - and the coffee and tres-Leches cake… this is one of my oases in Amsterdam..: loving it again as always Update - update Recently returned to Amsterdam and went straight to Casa Peru for my Peruvian Food “fix.” Just love the atmosphere (now in the winter season and it feels so “luminously warm”), the terrific food and flawless service. I had the Aji de Gallina and the tres leches cake. OMG… I loved the Aji (reminds me so of the true Peru) and the tres leches cake is to die for.enough said. I’d give 6 ****** if I could… Oh why the X2 ? Had now two incredible meals that were top level plus.. thank you! Initial review - After a terrific canal tour, I was looking for a relaxing place along the Prinsengracht to enjoy a “solid” cappuccino… I came across Casa Peru and I liked the feel of the “draw” towards the wonderfully quiet and welcoming “Ambiente.” The cappuccino was perfect. Ok it was lunch time and so I had lunch and a superb pisco sour came next. The food was prepared perfectly and was super tasty. Service was impeccable and attentive; and I did not feel rushed; Then I realized that there is outside seating as well right along the Prinsengracht and the entire lunch “moment” became a memorable experience … top food; top libations; top service and the result: this most positive review… I was for the time being transformed and felt I was in Peru….. true Peru in Amsterdam - lucky me (!) clearly deserving 5 Stars ***** and magic memories to carry forward …

Went to Casa Peru for lunch on the weekend and I will not be coming back any time soon. Positives: staff was very friendly. The Ceviche was tasty as well. Negatives: (i) service was quite slow and it felt they were understaffed, since we had arranged plans for the evening we asked for the status of the main dishes as they took a while to arrive. They response was -this is casa Peru, we will take our time. Fair enough. (ii) atmosphere was very crowded. Other customers kept banging our heads when passing behind our table to pay for their bills. (iii) main dishes - lomo saltado was quite underwhelming. The rice tasted like microwaved plastic and the fries were cold. If you order lomo saltado I would recommend to asked to serve the fries in the side so it does not get soaked with the sauce. Restaurant was overpriced for what they offered.

Went with a friend here. Got 2 appetizers and 2 main! Potatoes and ceviche for appetizers. Lomo saltos and garlic chicken! (Forgot the Spanish name), tres leches for dessert. Overall good tasting food, good ambiance (not too busy) and they don't rush you so you can chill etc. I thought 60eur a person for all the food and a couple drinks a person is reasonable! It's a good place I guess if you're craving this kind of cuisine. I'm giving the food 4 stars because I've had better/more authentic food and I know this is good but still doesn't make the authenticity level. Again overall good experience! I know a few reviews on here complained about the service but I thought it was totally fine. Maybe its a slower night on weeknights. But definitely wasn't waiting for hours 😁

Pretty disappointing. Wouldn’t come back. It’s not a quality place, it’s more of a “Peruvian food Dutch”. Not worth the cost.

The ceviche was acceptable (20€ for an “acceptable” and small plate) and the patatas a la huancaína were very poor - heated in the oven with barely any sauce (+ it was tasteless!), so I had to order more sauce to enjoy 5 SLICES OF BOILED POTATO (10,50€ + 3,50 for the sauce !?!?!?). Never again, really.

It’s clearly seen they care more about the money than the quality of the service they offer. It becomes obvious as well when you understand the servers are clearly unexperienced and walk lost around without being really available - they struggle communicating and have no knowledge of Peruvian food.

Furthermore, they place a lot of tables outside for quick drinks and snacks under the sun (which I understand- it’s a business and that’s quick money). That makes the servers have no time to care for costumers and makes the place look more like an average chaotic bar than a proper restaurant. Peruvian food deserves a better representation, but that’s only my opinion.

Ps: I’ve worked in horeca for long years and I manage a restaurant as well + I’ve traveled the whole Perú for months and have enjoyed Peruvian food across their desert, their mountains and their rainforest while living with locals. This is not a mean costumer’s complain. This whole description of my experience is meant to help you focus on improving future...

I go to many restaurants in Amsterdam and I decided to give this one a try since it is next to my office. When we arrived there, we were told that more than half of the menu was not available, because they were very busy in the weekend and they ran out of food. The woman told us the 3-4 dishes that they could serve, one of them being ceviche. Because I don’t eat meat, this was my only option so I asked her, how big it is, knowing that it is a started but thinking that for 20 euros it can’t be super small. She told me it’s enough for one person. She brought me 3 small pieces of fish with a tiny bit of pumpkin and with loads of onion on top. Such a disappointment. Had to go home and cook dinner. When I told her about my disappointment she could only say “i am sorry”. I was not happy with the food nor with the service and i will definitely not return here and I will tell everyone in my office not to make the same mistake as I did and visit...
