Overhyped Tourist Trap
When we first walked into Day’s Stone Grill (16/2/2025), the male host was unfriendly and unwelcoming. After being crammed in between two other tables, another gem of the waitstaff came to present the menus. For a restaurant who claims they value customer service, this waitress was extremely snarky and mumbled her way through the menu. As someone who has been to Amsterdam numerous times, this was easily the rudest waitress I’ve ever had and the most unpleasant and unwelcoming atmosphere I’ve been in. All of the items on the menu aren’t cheap which would not be an issue for a high quality steakhouse, the problem was the quality did not match. In addition, none of the menu items included a side, so you were already paying €50+ on a steak in an addition to an €8 mediocre salad. After ordering well before the two tables crammed right next to us, the food came out relatively quickly. The problem was that that first batch of food delivered to our table was not ours. It happened to be the table next to us that ordered well after. After that, food was delivered once again to our table. It felt like they were pranking us but again, they delivered the wrong food to the wrong table. This order went to the other table right next to us meaning that we were the first to order by over 10 minutes, and the last to receive our food. Once our food finally came, they delivered one angus burger with no bacon and another angus burger with no egg. Problem was we never asked for them to take off the bacon, the only modification we made was no egg on either burger. Our waitress reluctantly took it back and returned minutes later with the exact same burger with no bacon and now no egg. To make matters worse, besides being crushed in between two tables, the table next to us had a birthday. At a normal restaurant, it would normally consist of the waitstaff singing or a complimentary cake being brought out. At Day’s StoneGrill, they do things a little differently. They paused the music and then played happy birthday extremely loud not once but five straight times. When I say loud, I mean concert volume loud. The guy was clearly not having it and the host should’ve stopped. After that, they payed their bill and tried to quietly leave but the host blasted happy birthday extremely loud once again as they began to run out of the restaurant. We also listened to the same pop jazz remixes numerous times. We heard the same elevator music version of “Dreams” three times in our hour and a half there. Apart from that, the burgers were lackluster and the steak was just okay. This place felt like an overpriced tourist trap with fake, inflated reviews of their appalling hospitality and mediocre atmosphere. I would strongly urge nobody to go there, especially not visitors...

Follow-up: After I posted this review, the restaurant contacted me and offered to refund the €85 we paid – but only on the condition that I delete the review or remove the description of what happened. They stated that if they refund the amount, it should be treated as if the visit never took place.
I want to make it absolutely clear that I did not at any point ask for a refund – nor did I accept any agreement to delete my review. Of course, I have updated it to include the fact that I received the refund after writing the review, but that does not change what happened.
In fact, I believe the payment should never have been charged at all, considering the seriousness of the situation. To suggest that refunding the amount somehow erases the incident is simply not correct. The incident happened – refund or not.
We visited Day Stonegrill 1870 as a couple and ordered two striploin steaks with fries and pepper sauce. The concept of cooking the steak yourself on a hot stone worked well – and the meat itself was okay, not bad but nothing special. The sides were disappointing: the “fries” turned out to be potato wedges, and the vegetables were clearly frozen, lacking both taste and texture.
To be clear – the one-star rating is not about the food quality, which was acceptable. It’s entirely based on how a serious incident was handled by the staff.
The biggest disappointment – and unfortunately a serious issue – was the sauce. I had specifically ordered pepper sauce, but was instead served a peanut sauce without being informed. As I am allergic to peanuts, this led to an allergic reaction. When I brought the issue to the staff’s attention, it was not taken seriously nor handled professionally – their only solution was to offer a new steak (!), which in no way addressed the actual problem.
There was no apology, and I was told it was my own responsibility because I hadn’t asked about allergens. That is completely unreasonable – I ordered a steak with pepper sauce, and nothing in that order would suggest the presence of peanuts. Later, the staff said the sauce was “a gift from the chef” – which makes it even more important to explain it clearly to the guest, especially when it looks like something they ordered.
The evening ended with an allergic reaction, a “compensation steak,” and a bill of €85. I expected a far more professional approach to both allergens and...

As a steak enthusiast, I couldn't resist ordering their Porterhouse steak, and boy, was it a wise choice! The concept of cooking the steak on a hot marble stone intrigued me, and I was thrilled to see the sizzling presentation before my eyes. The Porterhouse steak, featuring a succulent strip steak and tenderloin steak separated by a tantalizing bone, was a true masterpiece.
The first bite of the Porterhouse steak was an explosion of flavors. The meat was exceptionally tender, and each morsel practically melted in my mouth. The preparation on the hot stone ensured a perfectly juicy and succulent steak, sealing in all the natural juices and flavors. The steak's initial medium-rare doneness gradually transitioned to a well-done finish due to the intense heat emanating from the stone. It added an intriguing dimension to the experience, allowing me to savor the steak in different stages.
The presentation of the dish was also commendable. The steak arrived on a sizzling stone, decorated by burst of flame, accompanied by a selection of delectable sides and sauces that perfectly complemented the rich flavors of the meat. The attention to detail and the quality of ingredients were evident in every element of the dish.
