I was a frequent customer of Massimo, always trying to go there when I wanted to have ice-cream and recommending to all my friends, as I was thinking it was the best in Amsterdam, until today, seeing the owner's unbelievably rude attitude. We lined up in the queue for many minutes with my friend and our kids ā due to corona measures only one customer was allowed to be in (which is totally fine) but when we were the first in the line and was standing just at the entrance to have some shade for our kids ā just like all other customers did before us, suddenly the owner approached to us and in a very aggressive manner started saying that we could not stand there like that, were we not aware of the corona measures, we had to respect other people as they cannot go out and maintain 1.5 meter distance if we stood there etc. At certain point I said we heard enough and understood his point but he continued saying things like I could bring food to my kids even if his shop was closed but he could not, didnāt we see the yellow lines on the floor that we need to keep the distance etc. Then when I asked my friend if we should leave in our language, he VERY aggressively intervened asking what I said and I had to reply back to him saying I was talking to my friend, not to him. Eventually we decided to leave of course, and he started yelling ciao ciao ciao behind us. I would understand his concern about corona measures and would definitely pay attention if I were doing something wrong about it (I am fully aware that I was not) but his manner was so bad and it was such a horrible experience in front of two kids. Mistakes happen, thatās not a problem, but the way the staff treated me when I asked for a refund was extremely disappointing. Someone just walked out from the kitchen and slammed a voucher for a free ice cream in front of me, without any form of conversation whatsoever. I told them politely that I donāt live in Amsterdam, so that I would prefer to have a refund. They told me this was not possible as they didnāt have cash and cannot return card payments (mind you, you can only pay by card at the shop). When my friend asked how they normally solve these issues (they told us these mistakes happen more often) they said there was no solution except given a voucher. After some debate a lady told me she would give me an email address that I could write to get a refund. I politely thanked her, but then she only told me to give her my email address, telling me they would get back to me. I told her that I would prefer to email them myself, but she (quite rudely) told me I could find the contact details online. Well, currently their website is offline, I have not received an email and my multiple insta DMs have been ignored (they are regularly posting on their story tho :)). Ā Ā Ā Read moreOne of the best places to grab some gelato in Amsterdam. Fresh and Delicious... the tiramisu flavour was epic to say the least. The texture was also perfect. Given the wide assortment of flavours, clearly gotta go here more often.
Update: (07/05/2021) The best! Dropped by here with a friend at 9pm which is great since they are open till 10pm every day. The only tough part was that the Tiramisu was over by that time (mental note: reach here prior to 8pm) I had the coffee and sea salt caramel. The coffee was simply a masterpiece. The texture, the colour and the flavour were all spot on. I must admit the caramel threw me off a little as the salt for some reason turned the flavour a lot more creamy/milky than I expected. But it was great nonetheless. That is just a bit for a warning for those who may try it.
Update: (19/06/2021) Had the coffee and peach! Wwwooaaww! The flavour of coffee couple with the freshness of the peach made for an excellent combination. Recommended!
