Romios is a family-owned Greek restaurant, and the owners are incredibly warm and welcoming. They personally take care of each table, making every guest feel truly at home. Their hospitality is heartfelt, and you can taste the love in every dish.
Here, you’ll find truly authentic, homemade Greek cuisine—far from the typical Dutch Greek restaurants that serve only dry grilled meat and pita, which misrepresent what Greek food is really about. I didn’t come here just because I live nearby; it was also highly recommended by my Greek friends, who assured me it was excellent. And they were absolutely right! We enjoyed cabbage rolls stuffed with minced meat, pita with spicy cheese, and, of course, the incredibly tender lamb stew and lamb tongue over rice—every bite was flavorful and delicious.
I’ll definitely be coming back every month! Their Greek wines are also worth trying—herbal, fresh, and different from the usual selections.
It’s completely unfair to leave a one-star review over a small mistake, like accidentally adding onions to a pita—especially for a restaurant like Romios, where the owners genuinely care about their guests. I’m sure that if you let them know, they would gladly replace your dish without hesitation. Restaurants like this, run with passion and kindness, deserve our support. Please be so kind for the restaurant.
Make sure to book a reservation, as it’s always packed day and night! And the prices are surprisingly reasonable compared to many overpriced restaurants in Amsterdam.
And its vegetation/ vegan friendly! Greek do have a lot of cuisine with only vegetables!...
Read moreRomios taverna is a small and attractive restaurant in the heart of Pijp, Amsterdam. For some time I was considering to visit the place and recently I did. I was pleasantly surprised and my experience exceeded all my expectations.
Long story short, after a long and quite tense day at work, I passed by Romios for the first time to grab take away dinner for my family. As soon as I walked in my taste buds were triggered by the lovely smell of home cooked food. I started to pick dishes and just couldn’t stop as everything looked so tasty!!! Once I made my order, I started to have chat with Nikos and Sylvia. Word by word and my tension was gone. I felt sooo welcomed and accepted. Such an amazing people cooking amazing food. As soon as I left to home, I felt in peace. And then, of course the dinner. All sorts of homemade Greek food. My taste buds were extremely happy for such a mixture of flavors, natural ingredients, freshness and the love put in each dish.
I am very happy for passing by, connecting with the staff and having this lovely experience. I am also very please of the quality of food and also for vegetarian options. Apart from cooked food Romios sells goods such as Greek olive oil, wine and herbs! Perfect gift for loved ones.
I thank you so much Nikos and Sylvia for such a warm welcome and hospitality, you guys made my week!!!
Please go and support locals who are passionate for...
Read moreWe did not have a pleasant experience at all. The waitress pointed in a general direction to a table, but we were asked to move to another. The table we sat at first remained empty all the time we were there!
I asked for black tea, but got black chai Yogi tea, which had Indian herbs in it. There was no normal black tea. We had to pay for tap water.
The food tasted good, but the potions are too small. Specially the stamna, which left my friend still hungry. It is sold as a vegetarian main dish, but there is nothing substantial in it, just vegetables, not a complete meal. When we said something about it, the answer was “well that’s how we serve it”.
The baklava was mediocre at best.
We did not feel welcome and will not come back.
Edit: The owner’s response says it all! In stead of taking criticism seriously they just deny everything. This is exactly why we will not go there again. They make up things as well. We are no regulars there, we had been to this restaurant once before and had a different dessert at the time. And then this: similar dishes like stamna in other restaurants come with bread or rice as a standard side dish. We were told we could have ordered extra rice. A look at the menu told us that would have cost €9,- extra! They are too stingy to give tap water for free en too stingy to serve...
