I'm not normally easily impressed by food. I've been lucky enough to travel a lot of places and eat a lot of foods. Honestly most places are pretty good.
Amsterdam however has been a revelation. I've been on tour 7 months and been fortunate enough to try food in Spain, Africa, Norway, England and now The Netherlands. I've been generally underwhelmed by the food so far on this leg of the tour. Amsterdam has changed that for sure!
If I had to choose one cuisine as a favorite it is certainly Italian. As a result I tend to be on the lookout for smaller Italian restaurants that appear to be family owned.
I hit the jackpot with Verona 63! Starting with the garlic bread and thru to the Quattro Stagiono pizza I was overwhelmed with how simply delicious these two items were. However, I was not prepared for the gastronomic experience that the Lasagna Bolognese was. Lasagna is my comfort food and favorite thing to eat of all time. Let's just say I've put a lotta noodles under this belt. However, nothing has equaled how amazing this lasagna was! It is the best I've ever had and in the running for one of the best things I've ever eaten.
I had to let the owner know how amazing the meal was and was lucky enough to meet Antone. What a great guy - amazing story and deserves all the support he gets.
Next time you're in Amsterdam, do yourself a favor and stop in at Verona 63, you'll be glad you did. And tell 'em...
Read moreDON'T SET YOUR FOOT IN THIS SO-CALLED RESTAURANT! the quality of food is extremely poor, and the amount of food presented is just laughable, I bet a child would still feel hungry after eating an adult size plate there. But the main issue is that THIS PLACE IS RUN BY CONS! When my friend and I dined there the card reader was broken meaning that we would have to pay by cash. The waiter only informed us about this issue after we had our meal. Since we had no cash I had to walk to the main squre, take out cash from the machine, and walk back. Because of all the trouble that I went through (looking for the cash machine, withdrawing more cash than needed since the ATM only offers 50 euro cash, getting more commision) I asked the waitor for a discount and he started his acting gig: "I can't do anything" followed by "I can offer you dessert but not today, come tomorrow for dessert" and when we said that we are going back home tonight he said that he can't do anything for now. It was a very disappointing experience, and if I had an opportunity to change the past I would prevent myself from going to...
Read moreI'm Italian and after 6 days of burgers and fries, the true Italian in me urgently needed to eat a good plate of pasta... I found this restaurant by chance which its name is also after my hometown (Verona), I went in and I was greeted by the staff with a smile. I had decided to try "Pasta ai quattro formaggi", (since Amsterdam is also well known for its cheeses) to fully test the quality of this city, and as a pure Italian I have to admit that the pasta I ate at Grill Verona Pizzeria was like eating in Italy! Very tasty, big portions and the service was fast and super friendly! Sure, the prices are higher than in Italy, but I have to say that if you want to eat a good plate of pasta it's really worth spending that little extra money here! Super...
