I am half French and was really contemplating the Saturday lunch my dining companion made for us for at 13:00 on the 9th of March.
When making the reservation She (Margriet Berg) expressed that she would like the 3 of us to sit near the window as this was my first visit to Leiden (a beautiful University town tucked beautifully between the Hague and Amsterdam).
We arrived early. I noticed the terrace was packed but there was only one other party in the front area and another larger one forming at the back of the room where a brunch set were about to enjoy their meal at this establishment.
The younger, female, staff completely ignored her request and placed us at a larger table near the kitchen. As a member of the James Beard Foundation, I enjoy the action in the kitchen and having a view into Chef William's magic was lovely for me. Alas, I was disappointed by the age discrimination from the staff.
The wait staff ignored us entirely. We had to ask for menus three times before I got up and requested them myself and walked them to my table. Water was another issue entirely (twice we asked and finally a bottle made it's way slowly to our table).
We ordered a charcuterie and the chicken liver pate accompanied with wine and beer. Chef William and staff did not disappoint. This man clearly navigates French food with the cachet of a Parisian. I have not had chicken liver pate as good since I was in Lyon, France in 2018.
Sadly, the next time I am in Leiden, I will pass on this place.

Don’t even know what cuisine does this restaurant have but it turned out it’s French, same as the restaurant next door lol. The waitress was friendly and helpful, recommend me a few dishes. I had an app that was vegetable based pie (forgot the name), a catfish as main course and a German pie thing as dessert. Food tasted good. The only reason I knocked down 1 Star was the service was really slow. I spent about 2 hours here. Not sure if this is common in Europe but if you are time constrained this might not be the...
