Having worked in restaurants and experienced the Friday night rush, my wife and I were sympathetic at first when it was taking a while to get our order of nachos out of the kitchen our first time at Lucy Lou’s tonight (that’s the only food we ordered). Half an hour: patient. 40 minutes: still patient. 45 minutes: beginning to wonder if all the people who arrived after we did were receiving their food first.
After close to an hour, we finally inquired about our food because we were concerned that our order never made it into the queue. After two waitresses checking the status, we finally received our simple basket of nachos, which we ate alongside our long empty beers (a bit sad because the people next to us managed to get their nachos shortly after their drinks, all of which they finished before ours arrived). To top things off, we weren’t offered silverware or napkins and had to get our own from further down the bar.
The place itself has a cool vibe. I appreciated the selection of Mexican beers and tequilas. As a big fan of Mexican food and drinks, I really wanted to like this place, but I can’t really justify spending almost €20 for two beers and average nachos that take an hour to...
Read moreThis place gets a one star from me for various reasons. One thing I’d like to specifically mention is the quesadilla. Now I’ve lived in Mexico and know what a good quesadilla should taste like. However, I know what you’re thinking right now: nobody can live up or compete with Mexican quesadillas. This is why I do my best to leave those expectations at the door, its simply an unfair comparison.
Having said that, I cannot conceive or comprehend how any chef or even anyone enjoying food would dare to send that quesadilla to another person let alone a paying customer. They have either abandoned any sort of love or passion for food or they never had any to begin with. The cheese looks and tastes like it’s from one of those plastic Kraft cheese packages...it’s one sticky, greasy unidentifiable mess, which clings to your pallet and coats your mouth with a disgusting synthetic film. I don’t care if you’ve ever been to Mexico, or eaten Mexican food, anyone with taste buds wouldn’t dare serve this. Period.
The cauliflower taco isn’t half bad.. there’s still hope here. Owners: eat at your own...
Read morePhenomenal atmosphere and dining experience, but personally the food felt underwhelming, especially the portions. I ordered the birria tacos and while extremely flavorful and delicious, they were absolutely tiny and not worth their cost (€14). have no doubt that it’s expensive to make them, especially here, but I would personally pay more upfront just to be full at the end of a meal; With these tacos I wasn’t. I don’t think it’s even about the pure grams of food given, but the tiny-ness of the presentation. If they had just used a bigger tortilla with the same amount of filling, it would’ve felt more justified than it is now, but they didn’t and it showed. The other costumers also seemed to have small portions, which is sad given the inherent abundance of food that Mexico is famous for. Like I said though, the taste was phenomenal and brought me back home, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for some decent spice. Just make sure to sit in the back near the kitchen, because sitting in the front is very tight and annoying with the door and...
