30th May 2020 - This is a relatively new Chinese restaurant that is located on Riccarton Road. They opened this restaurant at the beginning of March 2020.
Anyway, the interior layout is well set up with plenty of dining tables and chairs, as to cater for individuals and groups. It is also well lit and feels cosy.
The menu is very straightforward with Chinese and English texts plus photos (or you can always ask for help from one of the staff if you can't decide what to eat like me 😖). The menu is well presented based with plenty of choices and well balanced. They also sell alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
I’ve ordered Singapore 🇸🇬 fried noodles 🍜 and fish fillets in hot oil (水煮鱼). I had a quick taste of the Singapore 🇸🇬 fried noodles 🍜 and I must say, it was quite good (flavoursome).
As for my main meal, well you guess it, I had the “fish fillets in hot oil (水煮鱼)”. This dish is not for everyone; oily and spicy (well, I don't find it spicy even though I asked for extra spicy/ 加辣). This dish could easily become one of my favourite dishes but I will try other dishes before making my decision. I had a quick chat with the staff and he said they can increase the level of spiciness to suit the customers. The current spiciness is tailored/ toned down to suit the locals (individual palates).
Overall, I enjoyed the food and their service from this Chinese restaurant.
Good portion sizes.
This is a child-friendly restaurant.
This is a licensed (🍻🍸🍷🍾🍹🍺) eatery. There is no outdoor dining area.
There is plenty of onsite parking 🅿 at the back. Street parking is available too.
They accept cash and EFTPOS including credit card payments (Paywave is not available, for those who want to know). There is a small surcharge on credit card payment.
Would I go back? Yes 😀. Well worth a try and you will not be disappointed.

Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Little Spicy for the first time, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The dishes were exceptional, starting with the Spicy Beef in Tofu Pot, which balanced bold flavors and rich spices perfectly. The White Pepper Tender Lamb Soup with Mushrooms was another highlight, offering a delicate peppery warmth that complemented the tender lamb beautifully. The Chili Bean Paste Fish Fillets with Tofu provided the ideal level of spice, while the seasonal garlic vegetables were a refreshing and flavorful accompaniment.
The service was exemplary—our server was both friendly and attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. The restaurant itself was impeccably clean, with a thoughtfully designed interior that created a welcoming and cozy ambiance. A truly enjoyable...
Read moreMy Chinese wife and I ate here once... then kept coming back! Having lived for years in China, I can tell you, this is about as authentic as it gets in NZ. If you are used to the fish and chip style Chinese takeaway bland flavours, you probably won't like this as it's what Chinese food is supposed to taste like. Please don't change!
The spicy noodles was virtually spot on what you would get in Western China (where my wife is from, so knows it well). The non spicy noodle soups are also spot on what you would get from Guandong province or similar. The drinks are even better than what I have had in China too, modern cold drinks with tea bases.
If we had stayed for another night, we would have gone for dinner too, even though it was a 5km drive for us! Great friendly...
