Popped in here about a week ago to top off a lovely birthday evening for my wife with waffles (I love waffles... Just sayin'). Never tried this place before but OMG they certainly have their finger on the pulse, knowing what customers want, even when they don't know themselves. I had a banoffee waffle and the Mrs had something similar with a Monkey in the name. Virtually the same but with coconut on it too. What a culinary extravaganza. My taste buds were Irish dancing like a whipped cream coated Riverdance rehearsal... So rare to have a dessert like that where the waffle itself is not too sweet. It allows the accompaniments to take centre stage in an unassuming yet tantalising way. By far the best dessert restaurant I've been to here in ChCh... And in fact, anywhere for that matter... Soo used to sickly, over sweetened, over done desserts that not only leave you feeling sick but also leave you wishing you hadn't gone there in the first place. But not Wafflehaus... I loved it right down to the very last mouthful. It's also entirely possible that I may have licked the cardboard takeaway container clean afterwards... But you'll have to wait for the...
Read moreThis is going to sound dramatic but coming here was a life changing incident for me. Everything tasted so good and had so many layers of flavor!!
I had heard about depth of flavor and levels and whatever in MasterChef but never experienced it until right here. The Tahitian lime shake is simply heavenly, once you take a sip you get hit with a blast of deliciousness and you think it's over. But you keep on getting hit with blast after blast of different flavours; every single one of them better than the last. And there's so much of it!!!!!!
The second thing I want to highlight is the mango ice cream. Same as the shake: so many layers to the flavor. So smooth. So amazing.
Third: the waffles. So fresh and easy to eat. I got the waffle monkey. I tried a bunch of others and I feel like it's the best one.
Listen... I'm not a foodie or anything and I've never thought of stuff like this as ever being that deep but this place changed my mind.
I am totally ok with this post being a part of my digital footprint forever if it means more people can find this place.
+++ They have a whole bunch of asterix and Tintin stuff...
Read moreThe place was actually really cute and had a nice vibe, and the food was honestly so good the waffles and coffee were amazing. Definitely a place with good potential.
But I’ve gotta say, the customer service wasn’t great. The lady at the counter just seemed like she didn’t really want to be there. She kinda walked off while we were still trying to look at the menu which was a bit confusing btw, especially with no prices for the toppings and when I asked a simple question about it, she seemed annoyed and frustrated.
When my friend asked if he could add chocolate sauce to his waffle and bacon, she looked at him funny and was kinda judgmental about it before saying no in a weird way. It just made the whole thing a bit uncomfortable.
To be fair, she was the only one working and it was kinda busy, so maybe she was having a rough day but still, there’s no need to take it out on customers. We didn’t let it ruin our time or anything, but it did change the vibe.
I’d still go back just for the food, but hopefully this helps them realise how important attitude is especially when the food...
