Well how do I explain this. I read the reviews before going so had certain expectations. But Soul Quarter exceeded those. The staff are great, going above and beyond to deliver excellent customer service. The food was amazing, and there were so many things on the menu that I would really like to try. The music was great as well I will be back, again and again and again, trying all things on the menu. So I went back and it was just amazing again. Some new items on the menu. We all had a different entree which we shared, and a different main. Generous portions, and the staff was ever so friendly again. The duck liver paté was exceptional, as was the venison tartare. And for main the venison and the steak were sensational. If you want to support your local, this is a very tasty choice! Again we shared started, unfortunately the paté and tartare were no longer on the menu. But the pork rilettes were a great replacement. Love the fact that we received additional corn chips with our fondue without even asking for it. We will keep coming back here! We visited again after having bragged about it to friends. But this time the menu had changed for the worse. There was not much on the mains that really appealed. The entrees were good, but the stuffed potato was still cold on the inside. Mentioning it to our waiter only got us a 'i will let the kitchen know' response. When we asked for the bill, we were overcharged. We had booked through first table but got charged full price. Even though the person at the register was not the same as when we came in, we expected some form of communication internally, or a note in the computer. So this was a disappointing...
Read moreWe had an amazing anniversary dinner here. There were lots of good points but a couple of areas that could have been better. We enjoyed eating in the intimate atmosphere upstairs. The food was incredible. We had the salmon and the lamb rump. Top notch. However, I was interested to know what the spice was in the prawn bisque that came with the salmon, so I asked the waiter to find out. But apparently the chef wouldn't say what it was. Wow, okay, a state secret then? Or maybe it was bought from somewhere else so he didn't know? I've never had that response before. Kinda rude. Also, when you book, you're asked if it's a special occasion, so I said it was our 20th wedding anniversary. To be clear, we didn't expect anything special, but no one mentioned it. In fact, the waiter was so casual (eg kept calling us "guys", "have you guys made up your minds yet?") that it really didn't feel like a very special occasion at a fine dining establishment. She could've been straight out of Cobb and Co or something. We were also surprised that a table wasn't ready for us - we were told we could sit anywhere. So why do they ask that question if they're going to ignore the answer? Those two service elements were the only letdowns in an otherwise incredible restaurant. We'll definitely consider it next time we want somewhere really special. PS I also didn't appreciate the email the next day asking for a Google review if we were happy but saying we should contact them directly if we were unhappy. No, sorry, I review the good and the bad. I don't...
Read moreWhat an EXTRAORDINARY Evening. I mean seriously wasn't sure what to expect but WOW. We made a booking of course, it's a fairly small restaurant for indoor seating. With sections up and down. They have several outdoor tables as well. We arrived about 5 minutes before our booking and we greeted with a smile and escorted to our table. We dined on a Monday and were concerned with attire however jeans and a nice shirt are fine. Some were more dressed but you will be fine. We reviewed the menu and drinks and were quickly asked for our drink order. We had several questions and Abby did an amazing job answering them. She was very knowledgeable on the menu. We started with some Syrah wine from George's Road winery and a Maid on High Street. We also ordered a Fondue and it came out hot and very nicely displayed. It was delicious and if it was any predetermination of our mains it was totally worth the wait. Soon our meals came out, Salmon, 300g Age Sirloin, the Venison and the Chicken burger. All were cooked perfectly and tasted Delicious. I mean seriously guys if you have the chance to experience this please do it. Read my reviews we eat a lot of different places and this place was great. From service, to food, to the overall atmosphere (and music), it was ONE of The Best experiences. Hot Take My family surprised me with a dessert for my non-birthday. Hey, in Christchurch? Need food? Go Here now, you will not be...
