Highly recommend this place if you are looking for exquisite Japanese food in Auckland. Definitely come here and try the ramen and the rice bowls.
Ordered dishes: Chicken Katsu Don 👍 8/10 Grand Zen Nose ramen 👍 7.8/10
Chicken katsu Don: Really solid chicken katsu. The chicken was really crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Rice was cooked well, able to taste the individual grains of rice with nice texture. Salad was also really nice, it had a nice little sesame dressing.
Grand Zen Nose ramen 7.8/10 I had the option of choosing the firmness of the noodles (soft, normal, firm), and I chose the firm noodles. The noodles had a nice bouncy texture, which I love! The broth was really solid. Porky, creamy and packed full of umami. The meat in this bowl of ramen was really good. Paiku (braised soft ribs) and chashu (pork belly)were both amazing soft in texture. Just soo good.

Both the beef rendang and the chicken satay were quite bland and the rendang was quite tough. The flavour of the curry chicken noodle was slightly off from other curry chickens. However the char kuay teow was delicious. I would happily go back just for that. I would also go back for the milo Godzilla, a milo dinsaur with a scoop of ice cream. I think that the dishes here might be hit or miss depending on your take of Malaysian food. For me it was nice but didn't really have the...
Read moreGenuinely can't get enough of this wonderful restaurant! Its taken years for me to find a ramen shop that makes it how I like. The kumamoto broth is smooth, creamy and perfectly rich, and the noodles keep their texture and bounce. All topped off with the most lovely tamago and chashu you'll ever have. I was heartbroken when my old favourite (ramen lab) closed down, most other places I have found to be lacking in at least one aspect, but Ajisen has healed that sadness. The staff are absolutely amazing too, always polite, friendly and helpful. It doesn't get much better than this without actually going to Japan. Thank you, Ajisen, for making my tummy...
