Thoroughly enjoyed Escape Quest!
We are advanced players of escape rooms, we've done around 10 now and always looking for more to get our fix. We decided to go to escape quest on our holiday, and booked a day in advance with no problems (Sunday in July). We went for Ransom in the Miner's Cottage with 3 players (2 experienced, 1 newer to escape rooms).
The place is easy to find, the reception area nice and open. Staff super friendly. We had a spoken intro to our room and went over basic rules before diving in.
Actual room was great. It's all manual locks/combos, we normally prefer the mechanic automatic elements but there wasn't an overload of locks so it didn't feel too samey like others we've played. Puzzles were great, we had one issue with a lock being tricky to line up and one issue with a final part of the room which we thought could have been better explained for what format we needed to input. Everything else worked smoothly and had some great themed puzzles. We played with 3 people and I think 3/4 players would be best for this room, we had a few brief parts where one person was stood with nothing to do with 3, so more than 4 might be hard to get everyone constantly engaged. The clue system is a screen with a clue that pops up when needed (you don't request one) and we really loved that, we find talking to someone can break the immersion so this was perfect. Themeing was great, lots of props around (heard another review complaining about the theme but we found our room to be great).
After the room you get to take a photo with old timey props, would have liked a backdrop to this as it felt a little weird just stood in front of the desk but it's only a bit of fun for the end photo at the end of the day so didn't detract from the experience!
Overall had a really good time, room was great and a challenge which we really appreciated. Staff friendly and process smooth. Definitely recommend our room for experienced players, the room really exceeding our...
Read moreWe did the Escape Quest VR Adventure, and WOW! I have never done anything like this and can't wait to go again! I'm a bit of an escape room geek and this adventure has all that - four of us had to find a secret artefact and escape from a mystical pyramid.
To do it we had to negotiate the pyramid and work together to solve puzzles - but this is all entirely in a VR world that is just mind-blowing! Once you choose your character you are a new person and it was crazy to look down at my body and my hands and now I'm some kind of Indiana Jones! Once we worked out how to move around the pyramid, search for things, pick things up and interact with our environment we were away.
Talk about being in another world - the technology of this game is absolutely state-of-the-art. We were handing or throwing things to each other, scaling the inner walls of the pyramid, firing arrows at mysterious targets and .... well so much more but I don't want to give it away!
When you finish you're almost dazed to find yourself back in Queenstown - the adventure in the pyramid so recent and so real! Heartily recommend and excellent value for money too. ...
Read moreWhile the actual escape room was fun, I am basing my rating on some false advertising that I found very frustrating... Firstly, everywhere you look on the website, it states that the rooms are 90 minutes long. However, it turns out that the room is actually only 60 minutes long and they claim "whole experience" is 90 minutes...this includes a quick briefing, taking photos (which you pay additional for) and then as long as there is no group directly after you, and if you don't finish within the time, they will allow you some extra time. This is definitely not the advertised 90 minute room advertised. There are other escape rooms in Takapuna that are actually 90 minutes and had I known that this was only 60 minutes, I would probably have booked with them instead. I also take issue with the fact that on the website, it says "Escape Room photos are included FREE with every game!". After posing for the photos, you are then told you can purchase your photos for an additional fee. Again false advertising! Not impressed.... please advertise what you...
