This would have to be the best Colombian barbecue experience I've ever had in decades!! The team here do an exceptional job with their service, the presentation of all dishes, the ambiance.
The pure entertainment of an open kitchen where you can watch Master BBQ Chefs grill your selection of meat over glowing red charcoals - the way it should be ❤️ to absolute perfection 😚👌🏽
Absolutely stunning cuts of meat, infact one would suggest, possibly some of the beautifully slow roasted BBQ meat YOU are likely to eat - in YOUR entire lifetime. #truestory

P. S. This is NOT my first time here - so for the team to smack a "Home Run" Straight out of the park everytime single time I've been there ... AND to note - that's possibly 10 x times now... or more and with friends - some of them, a tough crowd... And if course... they LOVE IT ❤️
Consistency is Key - "El Humero" should be a definition within the Oxford Dictionary =...
Read moreI finally got a table!
I've attempted to go to their restaurant twice before, both times they were completely full and the wait for a table was well oer 30mins (the very first time I visited they said they couldn't take us at all and turned us away). Undeterred, I chose a Monday night dinner with friends and purposefully went early to book a table, to avoid disappointment again.
We managed to get a 6:30pm booking and the restaurant was relatively quiet, but plenty of wait staff on hand. Our waiter must have been new as he served us organic rose instead of the organic red we'd pointed to on the menu. My side option with the meat was available at all, but it took them part way through having sent me order to receive that information.
Whilst the service was friendly, the attention to detail wasn't what you'd expect (considering the cost) and I now know why everyone raves about the meat (but never mentioned the service).
The meat here is absolutely divine. It's cooked to perfection and if you get the ribs they basically fall off the bones as soon as you pick them up. The side sauces to go with the meat are plentiful, though it would be good to see a variety in the base ingredient for the sauces. And the side options for the meat seem quite standard. My first option was available (as previously mentioned) so o had the paprika potatoes which were a tasty compliment to my steak.
A bustling, loud, and cheery atmosphere best describes El Humero. Next time I am definitely requesting to sit at the bar so we can watch them grill the meat.
Despite the hiccups with service (which were very minor) I would absolutely recommend going here for a...
Read moreSadly, a disappointing experience. My wife and I came to the restaurant at 5pm sharp. The door was open, all the tables set up and ready, the staff behind the counter. We said hi, to which a gentleman behind the counter replied: "It's CLOSED! We open at 5!" My wife replied "It is 5pm [pointing at our watch]" The gentleman behind the counter "No. It is 16:57 on my watch" Me: "Well, OK. Could we sit down and wait for 3 minutes?" Silence followed by "it's CLOSED". the gentleman turned around and skillfully ignored us.
Left with no other choice, we apologised for our presence and left the premises. Perhaps that's for the better because I struggle to believe we would have received a quality customer service following this less than pleasant welcome.
Who knows, maybe they had a bad day, maybe the owner gave them strict instructions not to let anyone set a food inside the restaurant even 3 minutes (literally!) before 5pm (according to the staff's watch), maybe we didn't look like desirable customers. In any case, it appears there are many more welcoming dining venues in Takapuna, including in the very lane in which El...
