It's like entering passport control at an airport, no one smiled, or welcomed us when we arrived, we were shown our table and then left on our own. Once we discovered the menu (no one showed us where it was) we made our choices and ordered. I ordered the: LUCKNOWI BIRYANI (MEDIUM) $20.50 Choice of beef, lamb, prawn or fresh vegetables slow cooked with basmati rice, mixed spices and coriander. I went for the vegetables option. When it arrived the plate seemed to be just rice and grated carrot with a few, and very small, heads of cauliflower and the occasional, like one, mushroom and a shaving of radish, with a few peas. I asked the manager over and checked I had the right dish, saying there wasn't any vegetables (I was expecting some nice steaming broccoli/cauliflower etc) but he said no this was correct, and then said "According to you there isn't any vegetables" when I asked what he meant he repeated this line and offered to get some more. When questioned whether I was getting some value (rice and grated carrot for $20.50) he answered with his catch all phrase 'According to you'. I declined on the offer of more vegetables, my friend asked for his to be made as a takeaway and we left. This was a wonderful experience of hospitality gone bad. However if you go just up a few doors they serve wonderful dumplings at Basu, and great friendly hospitality.

Had dinner with family last night here. Was absolutely thrown off by the drop in the quality of food and service this place once offered. I have been here a couple times and have experienced amazing food and service but this time the experience was just horrid. Too spicy food, even for Indian taste. And to top this horrid experience, had a child throw pieces of naan onto our kids plate. We were told the kid was a special kid, which we obviously did not know at that time, but just the way that we were told this information by one of the service staff was too rude. We also saw a cockroach crawling on our seat, which really makes me think about the hygiene of the place. Told all this to the manager, he didn’t seem too surprised by the cockroach and mentioned something about them being crawling insects being anywhere. I definitely can say the cooking and service standard of the place has dropped drastically. Disappointed with the experience.

Can’t believe all the good reviews- totally agree with the below review that the curries taste like straight out of a “heat and eat” packet. We ordered 2 curries, medium and medium hot. My “medium” lamb curry tasted like tomato soup, there was no spice whatsoever and it was incredibly bland. The medium hot chicken curry had more flavour but was not medium hot and still was one of the worst curries I’ve had in ages and at $33 each I have no idea how they justify the price. The only redeeming part of the meal was the chilli cheese naan which was great. The service was average with the waitress reaching over me multiple times whilst I was eating. The “glass observation screen” into the kitchen as noted below is extremely dirty which does not create a nice ambience. There are a lot of lovely Indian restaurants in the area where you will pay half the price, so I definitely won’t be returning.

I would give minus if I could. Extremely disappointed with the food and the worst service you could ever get in an Indian Restaurant in Auckland.

I will never visit this place again and if you are reading this review , I strongly recommended to avoid this place. keep reading to know why.

We were 4 Adults and 1 child and had booked the table for 8.30 pm. We arrived 10 min late. The table wasn’t ready or may be given to someone else so we had to wait 10 min till they joined the tables for us.

Next we order starter and Main course all at once to save time but requested to bring starts first. The waitress said yes but said will serve all in bigger dinner plates instead giving starter plates ( doesn’t make any sense ).

Starters arrived quickly and we felt happy for that. We order 2 starters. One chicken chilli and one Spinach cottage cheese of which we liked only the cottage cheese. However the disaster started then when we finished our starter and waited and waited and waited ... no main course arrived. The waitress and waiter cum manager were very busy tidying up the place for closing than attending us..Then the restaurant was soon empty as all the guest had left while the waiter and waitress still busy in cleaning the place. This is the worst I have ever seen... you could also see their Roti( bread ) chef munching breads from the see through glass as they have open kitchen concept... I felt quite disgusted seeing that !! It is then I called the waitress and asked about our main course and she then realised that she never visited our table after the starters served !!!

Then they quickly made our mains in touch which was pathetic taste and you could taste the raw tomoato purée taste for curry as it was made in rush. Then we had to wait for the Roti bread. After it was served and we were almost done I had to again call the waiter to get the rice for our table which they should provide by default as it comes with curry Then has to call the waiter again to serve water.

So basically the waiter and waitress were least bothered serving guest. No one visited our table even once after serving starters to ask how is the food or to fill the water in glasses ( as they don’t put water bottles on the tables )

And guess what, even the bill given was wrong and did not deduct the one item we had cancelled. We realised it only after coming home as we were eager to leave that pathetic place !!

I am also going to complaint council as I observed some unhygienic practices in their see...

Been this place first time after heard good review. Our experience was not great! Lets talk about the good thing, First we have ordered Starter Chilly Paneer and Aloo chilly both are the same style only difference was paneer and Potatoes. Taste was good which gave us high exception on Mains. But that was disaster. We have ordered two vege curry, both very very high price then normal Indian restaurant. We were sure this is called “high end fine indian dine” but the taste was not next to simple takeaway shops. The service was so slow as well. The ambience was good but we were more in to food and that was not up to the price and standard. Been to other high quality “price” indian restaurant but they are not even near to the taste. After meal, we have heard sorry from the lady who has served us but that was not fault to say sorry. I am really sorry to write this review but I have to because that cost money and time but in reward we got unstratified experience. Surely wont be going...
