La Mama del Gelato Anita or Anita Gelato was originally an Israeli brand of gelato started by Mama Anita an Israeli woman of Moroccan heritage.

Mama Anita and son Nir developed the first recipes in 1998 in their cozy Mediterranean kitchen much to the delight of their neighbors and friends.

The brand has grown into a multi-national network of more than 160 locations in Israel, United States, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Spain, Cyprus, and Puerto Rico

As in every store, the ice creams are made on-site, using the company’s bases and various flavours – 36 in store and more than 200 in total.

"Anita Gelato" specialises in over-the-top, rich combinations of flavours in their gelato.

While single flavours like pistachio are fine, it's the over the top rich combinations that make customers swoon.

Gelato has a lower milk fat content than ice cream.

Extremely cosy place. Customer service is immaculate. They make it about you and the ice cream rather than money. Don't fall for those big names in Queenstown. Come here and you will not be dissapointed! Ice cream selection is beyond any expectations. Here are the flavours you'll never find anywhere else.

Price is spot on for such an iconic place. If you'd like to surprise your tastebuds and experience pure joy and happiness, then this place is a must for you.

Truly, Anita is the mother of gelato (at least in the South Island) and Tomoyo must be her daughter because she is so sweet and helpful.

We have been thinking about trying Anita gelato since we landed in NZ after seeing the glowing 5 star reviews. As self proclaimed gelato aficionados who’ve eaten our way through more gelaterias in Italy than we can remember, let’s just say expectations are high.

Anita gelato met our expectations and beyond, so much that we came back the next day for a take away box. The gelato fairy Tomoyo who served us made a special effort to bring out a flavour we tried yesterday and were looking forward to.

Beautiful decor, amazing vibes, great service, gelato worth the hype, definitely well worth the visit...
