Generally you only have one chance at a first impression. I gave this establishment two chances at making a first impression and they failed on both occasions. The first time I visited the shop I was waiting in line to order at approximately lunch time. I wanted to order the meal deal. Whilst in line I overheard the person in front order to upgrade the fish in the meal to blue cod at extra cost. The staff obliged and the order for the people in front of me was taken. At this point I was at the front of the line, however the staff member basically ignored me for approximately 3 minutes, pretty much face to face occasionally turning around to fix order receipts etc. But never bothered to take my order, solely disinterested in it. I saw that there were numerous orders and chalked the poor customer service up to them being busy... I left. The second time I attended was the day after my first visit. Given that I'd heard someone upgrade the fish in the meal deal to blue cod the day previously, I thought I would do the same. I attempted to place my order, but was advised that they didn't upgrade the fish to blue cod in the meal deal. I asked why, considering I'd heard them do it the day previously. No real answer was given. I continued with the standard order, and was told it would be a 30 minute wait. I left the shop and returned in 30 minutes. The food wasn't ready, it was another 10 minutes until it was handed to me. At this time a total of 40 minutes. I stayed in store to eat, as I was about to start eating the order the staff rushed out interrupting my first bite and told me not to eat it as it was not my order (you just handed it to me). They took the food away and said they'd prepare a fresh batch. 10 - 15 minutes later I finally got my meal. In total 50 - 60 minutes to get a feed at a fish and chips shop.

The food was good, the overall experience however was disappointingly...

I'm from the UK, so it's fair to say I've had my fair share of fish and chips. We ordered the hoki and blue cod with medium chips - wanted the oysters also but apparently it wasn't oyster season so they didn't have any, (even though every other restaurant in Queenstown had them). Waited about 15 mins, but what a disappointment when the food arrived. The pieces of fish were really thin and quite tasteless, but worst of all were the chips. These were obviously the end of a batch that had been cooked and recooked and were all overcooked and unedible. I wanted to keep quiet but had to ask if they were normal, as all the people around us had 'normal' looking chips. The girl offered to give us a fresh batch, but a few minutes later it seemed just like the same ones that had been soaked in greasy cooking oil. My wife couldn't not say anything and went back to complain saying that they were totally unacceptable. We were given a refund for the chips - but actually all we wanted was normal chips. It completely ruined our meal and appetite for our first meal in QT. Not sure about all these other good reviews, but easy to see why there was no trip advisor award for last year. Easily the worst fish and chips I have had in the 54 years...

Visiting Queenstown and craving some classic Kiwi fish and chips? Look no further than Erik's Fish and Chips, a must-visit spot for anyone seeking an authentic and delicious experience! 🌟

Located in the heart of Queenstown, Erik's Fish and Chips offers a cozy, laid-back atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. The aroma of freshly fried fish wafting through the air is irresistible, and the friendly staff only adds to the charm. 🍟

The menu features a variety of options, but the classic fish and chips are a standout. The fish is incredibly fresh, coated in a light, crispy batter that perfectly complements the tender, flaky interior. Paired with golden, perfectly seasoned chips, it's a meal that's both satisfying and indulgent. 🐟

For those looking for something a bit different, Erik's also offers gluten-free options and tasty extras like calamari rings and pineapple fritters. Each bite is a testament to their commitment to quality and flavor. 🍍

Whether you're grabbing a quick lunch or enjoying a leisurely dinner by the lakeside, Erik's Fish and Chips is a delightful addition to any Queenstown adventure. It's no wonder this place has become a beloved local...

Erik’s Fish and Chips in Queenstown is definitely worth a visit if you’re craving classic fish and chips done right. We stopped by for a quick meal and although the wait was about 15 minutes, it was well worth it. Everything is made fresh to order, and you can really taste the difference in the quality. The fish was beautifully cooked, fresh, flaky, and coated in a light, crispy batter that wasn’t too oily. It tasted clean and satisfying, just how proper fish and chips should be. A standout for us were the potato cakes. Unlike the ones you often get in Australia, which can be overly floury and bland, Erik’s version had a perfect texture with real potato inside and a golden crisp outside. They were seriously delicious and felt like a treat rather than filler. The location is easy to find, and there's a casual, welcoming vibe. Staff were friendly and efficient, managing the queue well despite it being busy. It’s a great spot for a relaxed bite, especially if you want to enjoy your food by the lake. Overall, Erik’s delivers on both taste and quality, a top choice for fish and chip lovers in Queenstown.
