Thai Taste Wanaka — Restaurant in South Island

Food was good but not as good as expected when you look at the rating. Massaman Curry was not how it is often served by restaurants in Thailand or at other places in New Zealand. Taste was good though, but difference to the red curry in my girlfriends plate was the sauce only (no cashews, no nuts, almost no potatos). Still, it was good but looked very different of what you see on some pics. Service was non existing. once somebody of the kitchen team showed up and asked about the quality, but thats it. Ambiete does not exist. The three guys guitar band sang/played well, but was way too loud. Moreover, drinks are sold at the other side of the room, separate Cashier. No beer if you are not registered in a Kiwi-registry (as tourists we are not). So overall, its a four star because it is very fairly priced too, otherwise I would have rated with...

2025 edit: Unfortunately the service has really fallen off. If you expect delivery to be on time, be prepared to wait. One time it was an hour and a half late, another 45 mins. Best to order through Uber Eats or another app where they are penalised for late delivery, rather than directly ordering.

Original review: After Thai 2 Go closed I was craving a good green curry. I even went to Cromwell and got a speeding ticket to get one.

Thai Taste makes a delicious green curry, similar to Thai 2 Go, just with more veg, but probably not organic. I was grateful they advertised a vegetarian and vegan option after I asked them. I would add tofu as standard to improve it (not sure if it was missed or not included).

Had take-away from Thai Taste for dinner. Delivery was 20 minutes over the allocated time, but whatever, no big deal, meals were still warm enough. The fried rice was ok, spring rolls were small, just like the ones you get frozen from Woolies, definitely not home made. The satay had a watery sauce, like soup watery, which I finished as a delicious peanut satay drink 😂. I’m just saying it’s not the consistency I would typically expect from a shop. The Thai beef salad was nice except was missing a flavour in the sauce, a flavour we’ve had in every Thai beef salad we’ve had before, but still, not bad. Overall, nothing terrible but nothing special...
