You see.. wherever and whenever I go on holiday, the kids will get excited when they see playground. I will just let them spend some time monkeying around, as it is a form of exercise and a good way to drain their seemingly unlimited energy. Since I was staying in Queenstown for 3 nights, I had to find places to go and the shore of Lake Wakatipu surrounding this picturesque town was definitely one of them. There was this playground right next to the lake, near to the Queenstown Garden.
Sure enough, the kids were ecstatic to swing around the park under the cold weather so it left the parents to find a place to sit down. That was then we noticed this standalone cafe nearby. The tables and chairs outside the cafe are facing the lake directly which made it an attractive proposition. The downside? It was very cold since it was June (winter) but it didn't deter us from enjoying our coffee. They do provide blanket should you need one. Of course you can opt to sit inside the cosy cafe, and attended by the friendly service team.
◾Savoury scone - I am in love! First time in my life trying savoury scone and it was a revelation - the inclusion of cheese & bacon in the scone plus the heavenly butter and sauce made it the best I'd eaten. Can't get enough of it... Almost tempted to order second helping. ◾Cookies - crunchy and chocolatey cookie for the kids to munch on after playing. ◾Flat white and latte - good coffee plus great lake view - perfect combination! The panoramic view alone adds at least 30% of worthiness.
To be honest, I have come back here twice during my Queenstown stay because I simply love this place so much. And it's a perfect place for photoporn. Next time I'll be back again for proper...
Read moreAsked for the refund after unacceptable poor service, made a complaint, walked out the door. Never coming back again. 6 adults, 1child, 2 babies sat by the biggest table in the restaurant. Wasn't too busy, had about 3-4 staffs serving and taking orders, 3-4 behind the counter cooking and pouring drinks. First thing we had asked was a high chair. Walked up to the counter and asked again to another staff 10 mins after. Was waiting to make an order at the same time. Waved, called out as staffs walked passed number of times (who were returning to counter after serving and taking orders from other tables). One time successful in catching the attention, but got ignored despite the eye contact. One of us went to the counter to make the order, and asked for the high chair again. 5mins after, a couple with a baby walks in, sits at a table, then the staff immediately brings out the high chair. I went up to a staff and asked for the high chair to hear back 'we only have one high chair'. lol. Made a complaint, the staff didn't know how to handle. Went up to the counter and asked to speak to the manager who was busy cooking. Nobody here seem to be able to handle or deal with a complaint just to hear back 'sorry' & 'we are busy' & 'staffs are new' in an unprofessional manner & attitude - rude rather. What can I say, you all ruined our day in a big family reunion. Only thing that keeps this restaurant going is its...
Read more4.5 weeks in NZ and everyone has been so friendly, until now. Great location and boy are they complacent about this fact. Snobbery of the highest order. Went to the bar and asked for 2 IPA's. My wife got a filthy look from the bar man. The girl, behind the bar told us whilst looking down her nose 'we only do those in cans, we do table service only so I cant serve you', find a place to sit. We went to the patio where the sun was shining with 5 tables all empty but with reserved signs on them. We went to the most out of the way table and a waitress came out and duly informed us that they did not sell IPA. I asked her to check. There were no 'no smoking signs' and so we attempted to light up ( I know I know, it's a disgusting habit) . We were clearly under close observation as the monent the flint engaged the original girl was out like the SAS. ' You can't smoke here' I'll lose my licence' We offered to smoke off premises and were told that wasn't allowed either. We left. In summary, a tourist trap where the staff are inhospitable and lazy and where they charge crazy prices. If that's your bag...
