I visited Alla Prossima with my family for dinner on the 21.05.25, and we had an amazing dining experience at the restaurant. We were warmly welcomed by the front of house staff and were asked our preference of seating. There are two seating areas, front and back/outdoor area, both of which gave a warm cozy feel. We opted to sit in the outdoor area and loved its ambience. We ordered the tagliere platter to start with and we were so fascinated by it that we relished very bit of it. If visiting the restaurant I would definitely recommend this to everyone. We then ordered the tagliatelle, the balanzoni and the cannolini. All the three homemade pasta dishes were so hearty and full of flavour, my personal favourite was the balanzoni. I wish I could have tried more of the items on the menu and will be sure to come back for more. I would love to try their Gnocchi with prawns next time. For dessert we ordered the tiramisu and the afogato. Loved the desserts especially the classic tiramisu which has always been my personal favourite and the tiramisu served here was perfect. Throughout the evening, the FNB staff made a genuine effort to keep checking in on us to make sure everything was going alright and that we were comfortable and enjoying our meal and I really appreciated their hospitality. If your looking for some hearty authentic Italian food in auckland, I think you will love this place. Big shout out to the staff working at Alla Prossima for making us feel so welcomed and giving us such a...
Read moreAlla Prossima isn't just an Italian restaurant; it's an experience of hospitality and warmth that begins the moment you step through the door. My recent visit was brief yet memorable, as my friends and I stopped in for a quick bite. While I can only vouch for their fries, which were perfectly crisp and seasoned, what truly sets Alla Prossima apart is their impeccable service.
Harry, our server for the evening, was a sigma akin to witnessing LeBron James on his best NBA game day. Imagine LeBron's legendary triple-double performances: Harry effortlessly balanced alphaness with a relaxed charm, making our dining experience not just enjoyable but downright delightful. His recommendations were spot-on, his timing impeccable, and his sense of humor added an extra layer of joy to our meal. It's rare to encounter someone who not only excels at their job but elevates the entire atmosphere with their presence.
In the realm of customer service, Harry deserves a standing ovation. If there were stats for outstanding servers, Harry's performance would include perfect accuracy in order taking, lightning-fast response times, and a charisma rating that would rival LeBron's best stat line: 40 points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds. Alla Prossima not only serves delectable Italian cuisine but also embodies hospitality at its finest, thanks to sigma servers like Harry. Here's to hoping his dedication and charm earn him the recognition (and raise!) he...
Read moreEdit: I have added 1 star to reflect the fact that the Hotel manager followed up with me by offering me a free dinner as a resolution. That's a pretty good outcome but unfortunatley, after my first experience, I didn't much fancy eating their food again.
Original review: Ate here as a guest of the attached Abstract Hotel.
The reason for my low rating is the fish mains “Filetto Di Pesce”. It was just badly cooked, fish was over done and tough, potatoes were undercooked, the whole dish was swimming in an oily white wine bath, like a thin soup which ensured the garlic bread served on top was soggy, and to top it off the vongole / pipi shells were crushed and hiding in the soup making for some unpleasantly crunchy bites. It was late and I was hungry so I ate the protein. But I made the foregoing complaints known to the waiter who cleared my table… and the restaurant did precisely nothing to make amends. Cool.
I started with the arancino which was good, nice buttery, mushroom filling, good crunchy outside but a bit overly salty.
Complimentary focaccia with olive oil was a nice touch. The EVVO was good stuff, but the focaccia was like sponge cake. I’d prefer it to be...
