4.5 stars. Great little brunch place hidden in the CBD area of Auckland. I would recommend parking in the nearby parking garage to avoid the headache of looking for street parking. We got reservations but went early and were seated immediately. The servers were nice. The ambiance is very airy, fresh, and reminded me of a garden with painted birds and hanging plants.
We ordered a cappuccino and a hot chocolate, which were both works of art to look at and tasty to drink. I also ordered a Cold Toddie, a refreshing juice of apple, lemon, honey and lots of ginger! Since it had a lot of ginger, I loved it. If you're not a fan of ginger, I would avoid this.
For food, we ordered the Bowl of Mushroom, the Chuffed Bowl and the French Toast. The Bowl of Mushroom was a mushroom explosion in my plate and mouth, which I loved because I'm obsessed with mushrooms. So, if you're not a fan of mushrooms, this is not the plate to go with. The mushrooms are sauted with garlic and thyme, there is a mushroom paste on the side, some additional caramelized onions, goat cheese, raisins, crispy buckwheat with chimichurri and eggs on a sourdough bread. If there was anything missing, it was a little spicy kick, but that's just me.
The Chuffed Bowl included quinoa with a tahini dressing, avocado, radish, buckwheat, broccoli, lettuce and an egg. It would've been nice to have the broccoli and lettuce sauteed with some garlic and oil so that they didn't taste so raw as compared to the rest of the bowl. But, otherwise, it was really good.
The French Toast was a marvelous piece of food art. The bread was brioche and a "pillow" sized piece that had been soaked overnight, with a citrus mascarpone, apple, ginger, fruit compote, ginger-lemon honey and with candied walnuts and freeze dried berries. While I'm not a fan of French toast, I tasted this one and it was a rockstar. The mascarpone is the lightest I've ever had. The fruits accompanying the toast were delicious. My friend licked every last speck of the dish off her plate, that is how good it was.
All in all, an excellent experience eating here! Pricing is at par with good restaurants in Auckland. They also sell some interesting coffee beans. I recommend coming...
Read moreI have never quite had such horrible service before, we were visiting my sister in Auckland who for her whole life has had a nut allergy and I have never seen anyone treat her so badly before. We sat down at a table and ordered some hot drinks which was all fine. Were given menus that clearly state that if you have an allergy we can accommodate that!
She mentions that she has a nut allergy to the initial server who promptly replies she has been told they are unable to serve food to people who have nut allergies. Before I go on I should mention that she has previously eaten here before and it has not been an issue. The server then goes and gets the manager who stated that as it’s a small kitchen they cannot separate nuts from the food which she maybe served so cannot serve her. With this being said we finish our hot drinks and decide to pay and leave.
When we are paying the manager then starts telling her how irresponsible she has been and that they had served her a hot drink which could have been contaminated with nut based milks. At this point we are just trying to leave but they continue to have a go at her and tell her how irresponsible it was for her to not tell them that she has a nut allergy prior to having a hot drink. This happened in front of many other patrons and was just uncalled for. In honesty the whole thing was just shocking from start to finish.
You would think they would use different milk containers to heat the milk for each type of milk anyway as there are multiple reasons other than allergy that someone may not want to be exposed to a particular type of milk.
I would strongly advise if you have an allergy to not bother trying to get any food or drink...

Visited on Good Friday at 1.30 pm 15% surcharge applied (no problem at all)
Greeted by an Asian waitress with tattoo who pushed us to order as the kitchen was closing. Tips : Alternative way to not make customers feel uncomfortable and annoyed is to let them know as soon as they are seated "Hi just letting you know that our kitchen is about to close in _ mins, are you able to order by ____pm"
We clearly said we do not want berry compote on the pancake. It came with berry compote. She took it back to the kitchen, came out and said "Sorry as the kitchen is closed. We can't make a new one, but we can remove the berry compote instead." Hence the photo attached showed that the berry compote was removed. For me - this is RIDICULOUS. What if the future customers are allergic to berries or are celiac and the customers have to eat the Non-GF due to her not taking the order properly. Tips: We're humans - we cannot remember every request customers order. Have a pen and notepad with you to write down customers order...
