Descent looking of Chinese Restaurant. Waiter/tress was seems bit emotional and grumpy in the first time i and another family arrived for lunch at 2PM. Despite of getting offended, i guess they might trying to understand what are we saying (?) so i am fine with that.
I am visiting for dim sum lunch and heard it is an “hidden gem” , here is my points Food served fast No price tagged (you need to ask the waiter/tress for price) Prices are vary between (NZD9.9-NZD 18.9) You better ask them if they had one of the menu you try to choose otherwise you might be upset when they mention sold out in last minute. Dimsum was just alright, some of them are served in medium size plate and served lots, so if you are solo, you better consider to choose about 2-3 dishes. Jellyfish salad is the worst dimsum in my opinion, it served thick cut and i guess saute/mixed with some herbs (which i guess not necessary for this dish) believe me if you are jellyfish salad lover like me, you would think twice on having it. It is quite uncomfortable when you sit and eat and lots of their(the teams) eyes are on you most of time. Best recommended dimsum will be the roast duck, thought it was quite big plate, their flavor are the greatest...
Read moreThis is a review for Dragon Boat Restaurant (Food Court Side) "Concerning" I've always enjoyed the dimsum from this place but today I bought one of my favourites "beef ribs in black pepper sauce" once I sat down on the table I moved one of the meat on top of the dish and wow theres a weird stech of old meat, I took a piece of meat and ate it just to make sure I'm not being dramatic (I will probably regret that later). Of course the taste was far from the usual dish I enjoyed. Coming from an Asian country I pretty much eat anything and have never brought a dish back but for the first time I brought this dish back to the counter. I said that the dish is off and asked for a different one. The lady just took it back without an argue and got me a different dish. It is very very "concerning" it felt like she knew it was off. I was hoping for her to argue with me so I can ask her to smell or taste it...
It all makes sense now all the yumcha dishes that didnt sell from the restaurant the day before gets sold at the food court side.
Btw that is paid cash only so... bit...
Read moreThis restaurant was one of the few that were open late on Elliot Street which was convenient. The waiter was very attentive and the food was pretty good but lacked flavour. There were a few vegetarian options on the menu but vegan ones weren’t labeled clearly. One thing that was not ideal is that we were charged an extra $2.50 for rice that would have normally come with a Lo Han Jai (monk’s dish) at other restaurants. The price is also a bit too steep for a restaurant of this quality. Though the venue is quite nice the portion sizes and quality of food served does not quite match the high end dining prices.
Actually the first thing I noticed was that this restaurant serves shark fin and the live lobster tank was at the front of the restaurant so right off the bat I was a little bit repelled. I didn’t ask the staff about these dishes so I can’t comment further on how ethically these were sourced.
Normally I wouldn’t give 4 stars but all things considered this is the most accurate...
