This is a Japanese curry cheap eats place in the Atrium food court. I ordered a medium-size You curry($7.5) with a chicken katsu($4.5), so it’s total $12.
Ordering Check the menu and toppings in my photo, they have 5 types of curry, all same price. Choose your curry and then choose your toppings. They will ask you if you want red ginger after assembling your curry meal. Well it’s up to you. Cutlery and napkins are self-service.
Picking your autistic seat Atrium food court is pretty big. I took a video of my surroundings so you have an idea of the layout of this place.
Water & Napkins No water dispenser in this food court, but drinks here are reasonably priced, check the price in my photo. If you are too damn broke, warehouse is upstairs. Napkins are self-service.
Food - 8.5/10 The rice is mushy but the curry and chicken is really good, it feeds me well.
Feel like the staff served today is new hire, there are two things a bit annoying. First is the ratio of curry and rice, after I finished half rice, there’s already no much curry left, it never happened in my past visiting. And second thing is he didn’t ask me if I need red ginger, he almost hand me a curry without ginger until another staff put ginger bowl in front of him. Maybe he zoned out a bit, I mean isn’t that muscle memory for a curry place. That’s why I think he’s a new hire. For an autistic, if something supposed to happen not happening, it’s a very unsettling experience. It’s not just a little inconvenience, yeah if you’re not getting your ginger, just ask, not big deal right? For me, it’s an alarm telling me something is going wrong, it can ruin half of my day. Well, just my honest autistic experience.
Overall I will give this place 4...
Read moreThe food was simply amazing at an astonishing price, you can get a full balanced meal for $8 or just the curry with rice at $6. And the quality is amazing as well. If I were to change something, I would add in a little more meat as it's very little in the Beef Curry with Rice but at $6 we can't really complain. The Sliced Wagyu Donburi was just amazing. The meat was tender and juicy (really rare to find thin meat to be juicy) and it was amazing. It was seasoned well and overall it was great. The area was neat and clean with a well-positioned hand sanitising station and there are QR Codes to contact trace for COVID. The ambiance was great with well-suited music playing. The toilets were clean as well. A thing to watch out for is that this place is discreetly seated under the hotel so some may struggle to find it. Would recommend this to younger people with tighter budgets who still want good food or just anyone who wants good food regardless...
Read moreTL;DR: Highly recommended! Not so pricey and yet their foods are super good and definitely satiates. I highly recommend the Salmon Katsus and Teriyaki Burger.
This is a super overdue review as we've been enjoying JDY for almost a year now.
I'm eating this Teriyaki Burger as I'm writing this review. This really triggered me to finally make this review as it's just too damn good! Normally, we'd only order rice meals, and my favorites are the Salmons, and my partner loves the katsus, esp the pork one. They're really bang of the buck, tastes great, super filling and not too expensive.
Most of the time I'd avoid the burger because I am not aware of good Japanese burgers. This time, I finally tried it. I'm glad I felt a bit adventurous today. The patty is thicc and juicy, one of the best burgers I've had here in NZ, literally! The bun seems very simple, but I super like it as well.
The staff (owner?) are very nice and friendly as well. Highly...
