Updated 12 May 2023 I have decided to update my initial review (changing from 2 stars to 3 stars). While I was disappointed with my lunch experience, I wanted to provide a fair assessment. The egg benedict dish did not meet my expectations (see photos. Overcooked and needed more hollandaisesauce), and the french toast was mediocre compared to other options I have tried before. However, I must commend the friendly service and attentive staff. The latte I had was hot and possibly the best in Parnell, speaking as a local and coffee lover. Their cakes were also quite good.
After posting my initial review, Vicky, a representative from the restaurant, responded and reached out to me. I actually had a conversation with her on the phone, and I mentioned that I intended to revisit the restaurant to give the same menu another try rather than seeking a refund. However, upon further consideration, I decided against going back. I felt uncomfortable going there after informing them of my planned visit. I didn't want the staff to be overly conscious of my presence and potentially treat my dish differently. While Vicky's gesture was kind, I preferred not to disclose my intended time and date of visit and eat under their observation without paying. I may choose to visit again in the future and try the same menu while paying for it. If the egg benedict dish impresses me on that occasion, I will certainly acknowledge it.
In light of the above, I would like to revise my initial review rating. I now rate the restaurant with 3 stars, as I feel my initial critique was overly harsh. It is possible that my specific dishes were not up to par on the day of my visit. Nonetheless, I can affirm that their coffee and other food offerings are better than those of any other...
Read moreAm a bit delayed in writing this review. Am back in Oz though wanted to write this review to acknowledge this great cafe.
On our way out from Auckland I wanted to stop by my old 1990s hood, Parnell. Back then, cafes in the area were few and I had seen some change on our day trips around Auckland.
Finding a park on Parnell road we spotted we were right outside this cafe. It seemed destined.
A shout out to Joe and his team. We had such a great meal and coffees.
I had the coconut porridge. It was the best porridge I have ever had. My soy latte I almost didn't taste the soy. My husband who has dabbled as a barista ( and he's a god Barista, not biased, just ask all the Sydney and Brisbane cafes he's worked at), tasted it and said it was soy and they used a very good brand. Sure enough when Joe showed it to us it was a really good brand. My husband had what seems to be NZ meal. Mince on toast. He loved it. Along with his two lattes.
While dining we noticed Joe walks around and talks to his diners. Even us. He gets to know them well. He reminded us of John at our local at home. Some visited after having been out with friends just to say hello to Joe.
Staff were all friendly and had a great sense of humour.
We absolutely loved our visit. If ever in Auckland again we will definitely make this our...
Read moreLocated on Parnell Road, Parnell., so as you might expect a nice looking establishment.. It certainly was.. Nice comfy seats, leather bench seats, big comfy chairs by a gas fire... Very nice. The menu was small and simple, but the amazing thing was the prices were alot cheaper than expected (given where we were). Coffeearrived, it wasn't the greatest textured milk and the waiter had slopped a good portion in to the saucer, but didn't say anything... So just average at best for the coffee. The meals arrived and were decent portions, waitress offered cracked pepper, nice. My friend had fish and chips but the fish was store brought battered, so nothing special. I had the mince, which was a bit bland and watery, like you get when you defrost something in a microwave and reheat, so disappointed with that a bit too. This place has alot to offer I feel, but with so much competition around it needs to up it's game on the details. Would recommend for a nice...
