We travelled every where, taste different kinds of food- Mexican is one of the easy one yo find in the US where we originally from! Just been to Cabo Cantina LA and also we go to Mexico , Cancun etc couple of times! We tried the red hot cantina in Takapuna just a month ago and we are surprised because the Burrito is listed as a golden price! But we ordered 2 and it’s huge ! it’s delicious and it’s huge- that’s why it’s $35 dollars🤣 And spicy margarita is really good but quite overpriced!
Anyway , we went last night to the red hot cantina - viaduct after we went at The Brit in Quay street for drinks! Well , we ordered couple of Spicy margarita even it’s not that cheap- but why not? Then we did ordered 2 burritos - wait for 20 minutes to get it but we were disappointed because two pieces of beef in my burrito so with the other one and mostly rice!!!! Why is that? The Takapuna one is better? Asked the lady when I was paying about who owns Takapuna she said it’s the same owner ! I didn’t say anything really! We left after and we just really think that in NZ you always expect the unexpected in every restaurant even fine dining here- either the service or the food or the drinks! We can pay , we can spend but lately we are not sure if we do want to share it $$$ to NZ hospitality! Mostly disappointing ! If I knew that this burrito last night is meatless 😀we rather not to have it! Again , NZ disappoints us ! How can the Takapuna has more beef in the burrito than the one here in Quay street ? Sane owner - so surely it has to be the same!! Bear in mind , Mexican in SF where we are originally from is the cheapest and filling food you can get - authentic!!! So hope this review would be a learning tool for this Red Hot Cantina! Because your burrito is a golden price so you should put the right amount of beef...
Read moreHad friends from France visit. We decided to stop here for food, that was our first mistake. Server from Malaysia was good. The 7 of us ordered food and drink. I ordered 2 tacos 🌮 $27. When they turned up I thought I must have ordered from the kids menu but alas no. That was saved for other tacos the chicken was just a bit bigger than a chicken nugget.
I am glad we were sitting indoors as a slight breeze would have blown this meal away. 3 of the 4 burgers turned up 10 minutes after my so called tacos were placed in front of me.
10 minutes later I got up to ask where the other burger was. Seems they had forgotten it. Strange as that was the first order that was placed.
Dessert- don’t order the churros ice cream sandwich. Churros Fried to within an cm of its life and then deep fried again for another 5 minutes to make sure it was cooked. Hard as in South African forward pack hard! Could have used it as a space saver tire 🛞
Not the place to go if you like spicy 🌶️ food. I’ve had better heat spice wise from more average Mexican restaurants in Auckland.
There are far better Mexican restaurants in Auckland, oh and the lava cake … not so much of a cake more a ca than a cake.
Was I glad that we went? …. Yeah coz we know not to go back there again. Was the place busy? Nope but the bonus was that we paid 15% more for the “meal” as it was a...
Read moreOur server was amazing. Incredibly helpful and kind and the food was delicious. However, the rest of the experience was not as good. There were quite a few empty tables. We had a reservation and they seated us at the very back right beside the kitchen door (which seemed unnecessary considering how many free tables there were). There were 2 of us and they sat us at a 4 person table. The seating along the wall is really low compared to the table so we sat on the two bar stools facing the back wall so were the same height and a good height for the table. Then one of the staff 5 mins later came over and said we had to sit opposite each other because they needed half our table for another group. I mentioned it was a little annoying because of the height but he didn't seem to care. And to make things worse, no one sat in that table the whole hour and a half we were there! Not the greatest experience. I would have thought you would give reservations the better tables and leave the rest for walk ins? Plus the height difference in bar stools and bench seating makes for an awkward dining experience. And to top it off, we were right below the speaker and at 6pm we could barely hear each other talk cause the...
