Up Cafe — Restaurant in Waitematā

It's morning your family says, "we're so hungry", you know finding a "good" breakfast for a diverse family is tough in the city. Well look no further than Up Cafe. We enjoyed breakfast there and and it was on overall great experience. We booked ahead just in case. Although it was slightly busy for a Saturday morning it wasn't necessarily needed. Helpful though, we may have had to wait a few minutes at best. We were greeted with a smile and quickly seated. The staff is not many here so please be patient when waiting to order or food to arrive. The menu had several options for many of our diverse eaters and there was something for everyone. If the menu doesn't grab you, check the cabinet up front or the counter. Both had many items equally delicious. They even had scones as big as my hand, it was big, trust me. Water was delivered with our coffees (1 mocha and 1 flat white) and soon after our food arrived. It was hot and very presentable. It tasted amazing. We ordered, waffles, eggs on toast and a mince on toast. The service was quick and polite. We had a wonderful experience. ‘Avoid at all cost’ if you have any respect for your own time … this place is worse than every other cafe I have ever been to for waiting time.

While having told us ‘we will bring the water to the table’, no one bothered and we helped ourselves after having waited for 10 minutes.

Not only do they made us wait 45 minutes for the breakfast, they didn’t even serve the breakfast in one go. One coffee was served 25 minutes after the order, second coffee along with one breakfast order arrived another 15 minutes later and the finally the second breakfast arrived another 5 minutes later and it was done exactly how I asked NOT to. The food quality didn’t do any favor to the experience either.

The hostess was kind enough to offer a full refund for the poor customer experience however we politely declined the offer - no money can bring back the time wasted and experience which spoilt the day.

As a cafe: Feels like home at Up Cafe. The owners and staff are all super friendly. We have tried a few different options of the menu and never been disappointed. Few different seating options within the Cafe to choose from (as a mum I love that there's a space where I can dine with my children without disturbing the other patrons, or escape my children if I prefer an outdoor option 😆). If you're lucky, there might be koko Samoa on the menu when you visit 😋

As a venue: Love it so much I used Up Cafe as the venue for my engagement party. The owners were so accommodating and gave me a range of options to choose from for catering. Would highly recommend!

Don't be deterred by parking issues - plenty of options on the side streets and all within a 2 minute walk - totally worth it and always a good cause supporting a small family business.
