Okay, talk about perfect timing! I literally just finished reading "The Curious Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" when I stumbled upon Dr. Jekyll's Pub in Oslo. Naturally, I had to stop by, order one of their "elixirs" (my Angel Colada was pure taste-bud bliss!), and see which facet of my duality would emerge!
For any bookworms out there, you'll absolutely adore the decor and atmosphere – it genuinely feels like you've walked into Dr. Jekyll's graceful, slightly mysterious abode. But this isn't just a themed pub; it's a serious contender. Crowned "Best Specialist Bar of the Year" by Norse Bar Awards, Dr. Jekyll's is a dream for any whisky enthusiast, boasting an impressive collection of over 550 unique whiskies from around the globe (they even offer tasting flights!).
Beyond the "Angel Colada," they've got an enormous selection of craft beers (with new taps monthly!), rum, tequila, gin, aquavit, and a cocktail menu that puts a creative spin on classics, plus their own signature concoctions like Cherry Cola and Peach Fix. Don't worry, non-alcoholic options are plentiful too!
The pub spans two floors: an Underground Sportsbar with billiard tables and TVs (which was closed when I was there), and the main bar perfect for chilling with friends. And on a sunny day, their beautiful backyard (watched over by Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, of course!) is a delightful bonus. Prices are on par with other Oslo spots, but for the sheer variety and quality, it's a fantastic value.
Seriously, if you're in Oslo and looking for a wonderful gem of a pub – especially on a hot summer day – Dr. Jekyll's is...
Read moreI met some friends at this bar in an afternoon before my company’s kick off and it was lovely, I liked it so much I went for seconds after my company’s kick off was over and I took a friend with me. The bouncers for one reason or another decided I couldn’t come in. I asked why and the two bouncers said I looked like I had too much to drink, wich is a complete fabrication, I don’t remember the last time I’ve been drunk. I never drink too much, like never. I went over to the bouncer standing by McDonald’s out of curiosity and asked him if he thought I appeared to be under the influence of alcohol to wich the guy replied, no not at all. He even suggested they were just being uncool because I was very well dressed and with a beautiful lady and probably the bouncers just wanted to embarrass me for some power game and banter between them. Suddenly the bouncers smirks made complete sense. Well I walked in 2 other bars without any problem and because of this episode I will never come back to Dr Jekylls nor will I recommend it to anyone I know. Not cool! Especially when in the afternoon I spent nearly 2000 kr on drinks for me and my friends. They completely killed the nights...
Read moreNice little English style pub on a side street in the centre of Oslo. The amusing blackboard caught our attention and drew us in. The fact that a Norwegian bar can do wordplays in English better than most English bars is to be applauded!
When we went in we were told that they had a problem with the beer taps and nothing on the board was available on draught. I fancied a Brooklyn Beer as it was familiar from a prior trip to New York and thus the only beer on the 'menu' that I knew.
However the friendly and helpful barman managed to rustle up two pints of Frydenlund. I had never heard of the beer before but it was good, and would have certainly had more if we hadn't had to get back to the hotel for dinner.
There is a nice, if limited, outside seating area (terrace would be exaggerating) for people who smoke and/or want to catch a bit of sun (which there was in August).
Would go again and experience the beer tasting of the kinds we don't...
