Taverna'n — Restaurant in Oslo

Been here twice and can't quite understand why I didn't go sooner. I love the atmosphere, I go alone and simply enjoy a meal. If you're going with company I recommend booking a table as I was lucky on both occasions to get a table. The staff is friendly.

I've had their fish and chips as well as their fish soup. You can tell that the food is made from scratch. Let's dig deeper into what I think about the food:

Portion sizes on both meals...great. I had to take short pauses during the fish and chips plate as it was more than enough for me.

The first bite of the fish gave an awfully satisfying crunch and that slightly toasted flavour of the breading was just perfect. Absolutely loved it. The fish itself proved to be less flavoured. I'm not saying you won't enjoy it as everyone's palette differs. An island woman like me though...prefers a well marinated fillet. It is served with homemade tartar sauce which definitely pairs well and lifts the flavours. The creamed peas were mellow in flavour with a soft and smooth texture. The chips...I'm not a french fry fan, I know, I'm sorry. But some nice, robust chips like these will do it for me. The dish gets an 8/10 for me as the flavours are on the milder side. Not tasteless, just milder than is my personal preference.

To the fish soup: Oh from the first slurp I knew I'd return to Taverna'n to continue tasting from their menu. The flavour was intense and clear. I wish I'd written this review as I sat at the table because it would be even better. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and the bread was soft and fresh and paired well with the soup. It may even have been sour dough if I remember correctly. This dish gets a 10/10. I want to eat it again but I have other dishes to go through before I double back...

What an amazing place. I just wondered either I’ve been just wandering around or the restaurant is new. Otherwise there is no way to miss this place. For all meat loving people as I am a meat lover, this is a must place to visit.

We ordered three taste meat platter and it’s delightful. Platter is more than adequate for two and scrumptious. Comes with ribs, beef and pretty nicely marinated chicken, salad by the side and some pizza bread. I am sure this is going to be my go to menu.

It is a nice discovery of our journey in Norway. We were 5, dinning at 7 pm. There were few people inside. We ordered 4 different dishes : grilled meat, pizza, chicken salad and stock fish. We didn't have to wait long and the order was perfectly correct. The two who ordered grilled meat were very happy with tender and juicy meat and sides. The pizza is baked in a wood oven by a very good pizzaiolo, and was tasty. The chicken salad was abundant and chicken soft and softly spiced. The stock fish was perfectly cooked and pea pure, potatoes tasted great. We took a walk after dinner and our remarks were that it was our best restaurant experience so...
