We booked this restaurant on the basis of its amazing reviews and were left utterly disappointed. My family and I visited Tromso for the first time and thought we would eat out somewhere special. We had to move the booking a few times to accommodate for the activities we were trying to do but finally settled on the fixed price menu for the day of the booking. It's important to note that if you do book the fixed price menu, they already lay out the table with the meats and cheeses and you can not decide once arriving at the restaurant that you have changed your mind.
On arriving and realising we had to go with this menu, we sat down and asked the restaurant to amend one of the antipasti platters to accommodate for my mum who is a vegetarian (especially as we had mentioned this at booking). Not only did the restaurant refuse to do this, the lady who served us (I forgot to get her name), suggested we pick out the cheeses and leave the meat out which I found offensive. As a working restaurant you should be able to cater towards a vegetarian. My sister had mentioned this at the time of booking but the restaurant denied any knowledge of anyone being vegetarian. I have never experienced a restaurant that's been this unhelpful, usually they are accommodating to anyone's dietary needs. We already felt the bad vibes, we wanted to leave but they insisted we couldn't as they had laid out the table in advance with the antipasti platter.
After much deliberation and commotion, they decided to offer my mum with some breads with toppings on instead which genuinely was toast and pesto, toast and some other veg. I couldn't quite get back into the mood of eating out here and just felt the mood was sour amidst all the altercation.
The pizza that was served was really not flavoursome at all, and I don't say this because of our experience, but genuinely, the tomato sauce could do with more flavour, its a tomato based sauce with not much else (no herbs, no salt, no spice, no flavour) and the pizza is quite tough to cut. Having tried pizza in quite a few Italians especially directly in Italy, this is genuinely the worst pizza I have ever had (we had the vegetarian veggie one and margherita). How can you get a basic cheese pizza wrong? The desserts were really delicious however as we had the panna cotta (really thick and full of vanilla and chocolate goodness) and gelato, as were the coffees. For the meat eaters, the antipasti platter is also very nice with the assortment of different meats and cheeses/jams. The way the table is also set out is really pretty and honestly, had the restaurant just accommodated for the switching of one platter to vegetarian, my review would have reflected a much better service. Definitely not one I'll be recommending, there are much better places to get food from and if you are craving some good pizza's, don't come here.
How you provide your service to a family is part of a memory of their trip you are creating. My parents rarely eat out and we genuinely wanted this to be a positive experience for them. They never create a fuss so we speak up for them when they don't feel they can, we do not appreciate spending any money here and the lack of kindness shown to 1 vegetarian person which simply involved switching out one antipasti platter was second to none.
Would not recommend, would...
Read moreI ate in over 4000+ restaurants here is my take on casa inferno will be a longer thread: 🧵
For future customers: The Coperto - an extra charge per Person of 25 kr, for the dishes and some almond and olive snacks. Honestly its funny to me, because outside italy i never found an italian restaurant who forcibly charges for coperto. And with Tromso being an Arctic citiy this might be the northest italian restaurant in the world wo charges this clown tax.
The Wine - 🍷 was pretty decent
The Pizza - as an expert on this field, i dont even know where to start. Its not well done, but still sadly this place might be the best place in town for a „good“ pizza. But honestly its not so good, if you are a pizza lover, just dont eat pizza in Tromso. And why i will elaborate in the section for the restaurant.
Tiramisu: Is basically a creamy brownie
For the restaurant: No offense, i want you to improve because i think you could be alot better with some tweaks.
The Pizza: As can be seen on the foto, was obviously to white, needed some more time in the oven. There was way to much prosciutto on the pizza, so it was very hard to chew it. I would generally recommend to reduce the amount of prosciutto and put it mid time in the oven, so it gets alot tastier and some Crunch. The fried basil was senseless, i didnt bring taste and also does not look good. There is only fresh basil or dryed basil. So you could cut some corners there to bring prices down, or what was also very disturbing. Dove e grano duro? For a pizza with that prize tag i would expect grano duro to be used. So maybe you add is as an extra or cut some corners.
The Tiramisu: I am a tiramisu lover and eat it on every occasion as i can. This one might be one of the worst i ever ate. Why? First chocolate chunks in the cream 🫨. No. The problem, it overshadowed the whole taste of the cream and the marsala, and left a bad taste in the mouth. At some point i thought a ate a brownie. So just cancel the chocolate, and add some fruit maybe strawberry on the side. Also i couldnt taste the mascarpone maybe because of the chocolate idk.
So overall, i think your restaurant could be very good. The base is there. I hope i could help you...
