If it weren't for the good food, I would have been forced to give two stars or less. In Norway we have this saying that if you wait for something good, you will not wait in vain. Well, the wait was too long.
We arrived five minutes earlier than what we had booked through their website. Upon arrival we were informed that there were no available table for us yet, so we would have to wait. In these times of Corona, we didn't really mind and we also got a glass of champagne on the house. Due to the delay we were also given the opportunity to choose the dishes we wanted. We ordered a three course menu with a wine pack.
We ordered King Crab, and Raindeer tartar for appetizers. Catfish and lamb for mains. And vanilla custard with cloudberry sorbet and meringue for dessert.
Unfortunately for us it took them at least 35-40min before we got any kind of food. One would think that it is normal to at least get some sort of bread and butter after placing an order, and seeing most tables around us had a basket of bread, we started wondering why we didn't get some.
The king crab and Raindeer tartar was good. After this we had to wait around 25-30min before we got our main. The lamb was very good, but the catfish hadn't been completely cooked. And then we had to wait another 20-25mim before we got our desserts, which were also very good.
I'm a bit surprised that they struggled so much with getting the orders out. We noticed that many of the other tables had to wait a long time for their food as well. So I wouldn't say it was unique for us. We noticed that another table actually got a fourth meal in their three course dinner because they had been waiting for such a long time.
If it weren't for the waiting, I would've probably given...
Read moreWent there with high hopes left very disappointed. Had cured reindeer as a starter and sirloin for main course. Starter was nice and that's the only reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of one. Overall experience with this place was pretty poor. Very overpriced for what it is... sirloin looked very poor for 40 euro dish. Two thin slices of medium well done chewy beef lying on top of green beans and stone cold baby potatoes. When complained about cold potatoes waitress took it back to the kitchen were potatoes were halved and deep fried and put back on the plate! When it came to pay bill embarrassing situation had place. Bill came up to around 1200nok for two people. Handed 1500 nok and waiter kept asking "would you like anything in return"? didn't understand what he meant. I though his is offering discount for that terrible main course I had but I said no it's ok. What he actually ment was if we want any change back from that 1500 nok we handed to him or can he keep that 300 nok (30 euro)as tip for himself... very unprofessional! I won't be back and I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody. You can find much better places to eat in Tromsø for...
Read moreI was really looking forward to my experience at Emma's given all the sparkling reviews. Unfortunately, and in my opinion (of course), this place isn't the most suited for those dining out alone. It was my least favourite dining experience in my 4nts in Tromsø. As I was alone, I was placed at the bar. The bar is quite narrow (so not ideal for eating) and you are left facing the wall of bottled alcohol (the novelty wears off after a few minutes staring at that). Everyone else, couples and small groups are behind you. I noticed that the waiter would go into detail explaining about the menu to the table guests whereas I didn't get the same treatment, although things were explained to me if I asked. I am ordering from the same menu and paying the same price and felt like I was treated as a secondary guest plonked at the bar. It just felt pretty uncomfortable and not relaxing at all. I ordered 3 x plates of food which were very nice but unfortunately I was just looking forward to getting out of there.
I had a much, much better dining experience at Mathallen for example. From the food, the atmosphere (open kitchen) and...
