Very uncomfortable 9 hour trip.
There was a big group of selfish tourist. When we were boarding, they placed their bags on the seat and some of them placed their legs on the seat. They did not want other people to sit with them. When the crew tried to asked them to squeeze in, they resisted and only reluctantly complied after much persuasion.
1 hour into the journey, 1 passenger had her seat taken when she went out and she had to squeeze with her sister, who sat beside me. 3 of us squeezed into 2 seats for the rest of the journey. We could have asked the crew to intervene but that would risk antagonising the big group of selfish tourist for the whole trip.
Maybe, it might be wiser if there is 1 crew stationed to direct people to squeeze in at the start of the boarding, rather than to let them be comfortable 1 person taking 2 seats and then "take" the seat away from them when the crew ask them to squeeze in.
I have also ordered soup and there was no table in the seat I am in. There was no other table around for me to have my lunch as all seats were taken. The soup was hot and I was not able to hold it for very long. I found something that looks like a table - the ventilator, and sat on it to have my lunch. It was a very comfortable lunch.
On the whale, we were lucky to see quite a number of humpback whales and we saw breaching of humpback whales. The scenery and arctic pink sky was also stunning! These were the only positives.
Advice to future passengers: come early if you want to get a good seat. I came 15min early and should have come earlier. Also, please be considerate to...
Read moreWhile the whale sighting wasn't as good as I have encountered in other places/countries and the distance you have to go to get to the whales' area is quite far, the organization and crew of Brim Explorer has been nothing short of extraordinary! I booked a tour with Brim Explorer on very short notice after a tour with another company got cancelled due to bad weather. Because this new booked tour clashed with a departing time of an aurora tour I reached out to the Brim Explorer Team and asked if I could reschedule the tour for one day earlier (unfortunately as it was already late, the prefered date was not bookable on their webpage). They told me that the desired tour was probably going to be quite full but I could try my luck and just come by in the morning and see if there was still a spot available. So the next morning, I arrived there very early and explained my situation to the crew, which all of them were unbelievably understanding and helpful. After everyone with the correct booking had been boarded they checked if there was still free seats and let me join their tour a day early. No fuss, no complicated re-booking just showing them my ticket for the next day and off we went!
Probably one of the most generous and uncomplicated tour organizations I have ever experienced. The ship is great too with lots of outdoor decks (if the weather allows).
As I said in the beginning, the whale watching itself wasn't that great on the day I went, but if I ever did a Whale Watching Excursion in Tromso again, I would definitely book with Brim...
Read moreHow do I even start. I’ll try to make this short and accurate. I would honestly save your money because it’s a total of 8 hours on a ship with not enough proper seating for everyone. It’s horrible! Basically there is only a few good seats for everyone and if you don’t get on soon enough you’ll be uncomfortable for 8 hours. You only get to see whales (if they find any) for around an 1 hour. I will say the staff was somewhat friendly and knowledgeable, but they were also tone deaf to the passengers that was stuck without proper seating with a table. We ordered food before hand and had no table to even eat it on! What’s the point in even ordering? So my partner and I stood in the bar area to try to eat it because it was hot and we were unable to walk it back to our seats…. Obviously because it was boiling hot and that’s a safety problem to have super hot soup on a boat with no stable place to put it on. To be completely honest, for the price you pay it’s completely unacceptable, and I truly wish I could get some of my money back. Another point, they have no control over rude passengers and boarding the boat. It feels like one big pecking order game, far from relaxing and an equal experience for all passengers.
If you want to waste a whole day on vacation, this is the place to go. Otherwise, save your money. I wish I had paid attention to the negative reviews because they are correct. The positive reviews are just from the lucky people that was able to get proper seating. Be...
