To begin with, we were looking for a place to eat in Tromso for maybe 1.5 hours. Everywhere you look, every menu is either burgers, burgers, burgers, sandwiches, pizza (if you're looking for something that doesn't break the bank) or something too fancy, dinning experiences with booking tables in advance, over the top dishes that are a little bit Norwegian (e.g. reindeer/ some fish/ whale, etc.). All we wanted was something local, something that shows a little bit of the true Norwegian cuisine and that resembles a home-cooked meal. This was the last place we checked out on the map and we went straight there. The atmosphere was calm and cosy, no loud music or posters or anything, altogether a very welcoming little place. We were catered by the owner (I presume, named Dan) who has an open, warm, cheerful personality and in a few words he explained what to expect from their food and let us take our time to pick. We had Norwegian stew and Meatcakes. For those looking for something locally sourced, cosy, heartwarming and with a purpose - this is the place to visit. The food was fantastic for a cooler windy afternoon, it warmed our bellies and left our hearts full. This is the type of food you would expect people here eat visiting their moms and grandmas (hence the name of the place). Highly recommend with all my heart and I hope more people have this type of concept in mind when opening restaurants with...

Tucked away behind an unmarked door, this Norway speakeasy feels like stepping into a secret you’re lucky to be let in on. It used to be an old butcher shop, and the owners have turned it into something truly beautiful — a cozy, intimate space that somehow still carries the soul of its past. You can feel the history in the walls, but now it’s filled with laughter, the smell of incredible food, and the sound of cocktail shakers.
The place is run by two owners who pour their hearts into everything. One is in the kitchen, crafting food inspired by “mom’s cooking” — comforting, full of flavor, and made with genuine care. The other runs the bar, where every drink is tailored to your personal taste. There’s no menu; just describe what you like, and they’ll create something perfect, every time.
They don’t advertise — and they don’t need to. Word of mouth is what keeps this little spot alive, and after one visit, you’ll understand why. It’s not just dinner and drinks — it’s an experience that feels personal, creative, and deeply authentic. Easily one of the most memorable nights I’ve...
Read moreAmong the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The food was amazing, the atmosphere is pleasant and the service was so friendly and professional. You can’t help but notice the great attention to detail in everything they do. It used to be an old butcher-shop and I loved how they blended the place history into the decor. It’s elegant, but not pretentious, which made us feel really cozy. Our waiter told us about how they chose the menu to preserve local home-cooking traditions, and strongly recommended the raindeer stew and then apple cake - both were delicious. If this restaurant was in my home town, it would be my favourite...
