SABORANDES GELATO & CAFE — Restaurant in Ollantaytambo

There is a profoundly rude server here who has been unkind to me in a way I’ve never experienced at any other restaurant. I’m Peruvian and speak fluent Spanish, so this isn’t a case of a language barrier.

1. She got vocally mad at me for walking inside of the restaurant while she was mopping. If that bothers you, why not close the establishment for 15 minutes while you mop?
2. When I asked about the ice cream flavor my partner was served (it tasted strongly of mint instead of muña, as it was labeled. My partner had gotten the same flavor the day before and said it tasted completely different.) she firmly insisted that it was muña.
3. She told my partner not to sit at an outside table while they were waiting for me to order ice cream inside.
4. After the whole flavor debacle, she yelled at me “don’t think you’re so special”. Of course, quickly we left after that.

Maybe she was having a bad day, or maybe it was homophobia. Either way, the level of rudeness was disappointing and I strongly advise people purchase ice cream elsewhere in...

Have stopped in here a few times during our stay in Ollyantaytambo, in need of a strong cup of coffee to help with jet lag and fatigue after some big walks. They serve many variations of coffee and we tried espresso, latte, cappuccino and a larger black coffee. All were nice strength and bitterness, and a good pick-me-up! I prefer the black coffee personally. There are empanadas, which are simple and tasty snack - pre-made and heated for you. We didn’t try any, but they have an impressive range of delicious looking ice-creams, cakes and sweet desserts, that all looked fresh. The woman serving us was friendly - full of smiles and welcoming, and I used a little Spanish I knew and she was happy to converse with me.

Avoid this place at all costs. Not only was the food terrible, they charged us a different price than what was listed. When I asked, they told me the owner asked them to charge an extra sol for the cinnamon rolls because they were bigger that day. They also did not provide a proper receipt.
