Mid food, nothing to write home about for the price. Almost $75USD/ person just for presentation. They were doing a Japanese homage and they definitely did not do it any justice. No actual unique flavor and encountered a good amount of dishes that were either stale or over/underseasoned. Maybe because we arrived 1.5 hours before closing, but you would think they would find a way to keep it somewhat fresh. Most of the items are what I would consider fillers. There's no way to get your money's worth. I really don't get the 4.5 stars on this place. Have ya'll never been to a good buffet? I get that it's the Pen, but I've literally gotten better flavors back in my college dorm cafeteria and airline lounges.

I was in a good mood the whole time and was really trying to be courteous, but honestly the I almost wanted to give the staff a big attitude.

Staff seemed quite inconvenienced that we (2 people) arrived 1.5 hours before closing. Is it really that late? Lady at the front seemed annoyed to be there and was quite condescending on her tone. I don't know if she was doing it on purpose... The servers could care less to be there and the older gentleman that closed out our bill looked very unhappy that I requested for a copy of the receipt after I signed for it. I thought he was coming back with a copy but didn't. Sorry for bothering you while you were compiling all the receipts for the night. He looked at us from across the restaurant, glasses down his nose like how dare I ask for something so simple.

Listen, I don't know if you guys are getting underpaid or treated badly, but gosh I thought my stay at the Pen was great until I stepped into this place. I would consider this place the one dark spot...

We came to Peninsula Escolta on Friday 23rd February 2024 as a group of 11 team members. Had heard a lot about Escolta and even read the reviews. As it turned out the food was extremely average. They had ONE pasta sauce. The chefs were inflexible to tweak anything or make fresh like fried rice for example. Overall overpriced at 3,490 (and they only just increased the pricing 10 days prior to our booking).

The waiters had no interest in coming and clearing the used plates on the table which is pretty standard at buffet meals. We spent close to 39,000 PHP and yet the service was not there and waiters were no where to be seen to ask how the meal was going or if we needed any help.

Two of us in the group are not local, but our team are local and they did not like the food either. The dining areas didn't have a clean feeling either - pretty poor for a 5-start hotel restaurant.

So I'm not sure whose doing these 5 star reviews.

Given the reviews, we had chosen to go to Escolta over the Fairmont Makati Buffet. Fairmont had an offer to discount 40% of their more expensive buffet and would have worked out to be much cheaper.... I did happen to go to Fairmont on Saturday night personally and it was 100x better than Escolta with attentive waiters and flexible chefs. People should not be persuaded by the pricing alone. Fairmont is more expensive for a reason.

Also overall found Peninsula Manila communication to be poor. This is one reason we had also not stayed at Peninsula as they do not respond to communication most of the times.

The only saving grace was the company we had with our team and we shared a lot of stories and laughed a lot.

Anyhow we know for next time where to go and not settle for...

My recent visit to Escolta at The Peninsula Manila was a mixed bag, with highs and lows that left me pondering. Service, as anticipated from a high-end hotel, was on point – attentive and courteous, as you'd expect. Food, however, proved to be a bit of a rollercoaster. While some dishes were impressive, the overall quality left me with an "okay but not great" impression. Cold cuts and the cheese selection didn't boast the premium quality I had hoped for, and certain main courses lacked the flavor punch I was craving. Desserts had their quirks too – the leche flan felt a bit overly gelatinous. Yet, amid the ups and downs, there were standout items that saved the day. The grilled shrimp, mussels, and lechon showcased a mastery of flavors, each dish perfectly grilled to a smoky, natural-sweet perfection. A hiccup came with the grilled shrimp – the lack of proper deveining left me disappointed, a small detail that could have elevated the experience. The atmosphere, fortunately, retained its charm. Cozy, clean, and imbued with true Filipino aesthetics, the interior still holds the magic that has always drawn me to Escolta. Reflecting on the past, it's a puzzling shift from the food I used to adore. Nevertheless, the lesson here seems to be to tread carefully, sample in moderation, and enjoy what genuinely impresses you. Buffets rarely hit the mark with every offering, and Escolta, while not the same as before, still has its moments of culinary brilliance.

We went here on a Friday evening to celebrate an anniversary. They were having a "Flavors of Japan" themed dinner buffet. Outstanding items: Tempura (best we had in Philippines; and the sauce was also perfect), Wagyu beef, Avocado and Octopus cocktail, Sushi/Sashimi (only Tuna, Salmon and Tako Octopus available but they were very good), Intense Chocolate and Strawberry Triple and passion fruit merengue desserts, Watermelon and Dragon fruits, fresh salad. The infused water was also very good. Ok Quality items: Lechon, Siomai, Ramen, Coffee. Not good Items: Leg of Lamb (was truly disappointing, very tough to eat, shocking that they put it out!), Papaya had no taste at all, again why put it out? Pro tips: You can find very good fresh Mango at the Japanese Halo Halo station 😋. Also don't get a table on the main floor, near the buffet tables. The reason is that there is a main outside door that goes right into the Escolta resto. So outsiders and guests use the restaurant as a thoroughfare to get to the lobby! It's shocking, but during the evening maybe 200 to 300 people were walking right next to the buffet line, making it difficult for diners to access the food. This set up is also totally unhygienic. It's unbelievable that the hotel and restaurant would allow this kind of set up. Otherwise it's a beautiful restaurant, but the constant parade of non diners ruins the ambiance. On the plus side, the service is really top notch. Give 5 stars to the staff.
