I was told this is an excellent Japanese restaurant. My hubby and I went on a Sunday so there were lots of families having dinner. We were seated right away across from the sushi chefs.

We ordered three rolls: dragon roll, spider roll and Philadelphia roll. Drinks were served promptly but the rolls were not served for a long time. We had to follow up on our order and we got Philadelphia roll but the salmon was not fresh, it’s frozen. I don’t have to guess as the frozen salmon was displayed on the counter.

The dragon roll with mango slice on top came next and it was good! The best that I had. Kudos to the sushi chef. We were almost finish with both but we have yet to see the last roll to be served. We can’t wait any longer so we canceled our last order. We also see other customers following up on their orders and canceling because it’s taking too long.

I don’t know what it is but the servers seems to be in chaos. They didn’t have an assigned table to wait. They were all over the place. Even the waitress/hostess was cooking something right next to the sushi chef table, then waiting on tables and then getting checks and receiving payments. Really? Management needs helps to make the place more efficient so customers do not spend time waiting and following up on orders. It will also help the sushi chefs’ to complete orders in the right order and not scrambling to prepare sushi orders for customers that’s already complaining.

Updated review:

I went back with a couple of friends on a Sunday evening. There was a crowd but nothing compared to our first time in Kimpura. We ordered sushi rolls and ramen. Sorry I don’t think we took photos as we were chatting away with friends we haven’t met for a long time. It was closed to 10 pm and we were the only ones in the restaurant. The crew was cleaning up but they didn’t try to kick us out. I chatted with one of the crew as we were settling the bill and she was nice to tell us that we can stay until closing time. She mentioned that they’ve had busy days so service can be off but overall she was happy with all the customers that visit their restaurant. No complaints from me or my hubby this time around. The food we had are fresh and tasty. We will back again when we visit the...

I recently visited Kimpura Teppanyaki in Manila, hoping for a genuine Japanese dining experience, but it turned out to be anything but authentic. The food quality and cooking techniques were not up to standard, leaving me quite disappointed, especially considering the high price tag.

The tempura was a complete letdown, lacking the crispiness that’s essential to this dish. The fried rice was mushy, not the flavorful and perfectly textured side you would expect. The scallops were overcooked and carelessly tossed around rather than being properly seared to perfection. And when it came to the steak, which we specifically requested to be cooked medium-rare, it arrived overdone and lacking any of the tenderness and flavor one would expect.

What added to the disappointment was the lackluster service. The staff wasn’t attentive—used dishes were left on the table, and the chef preparing our food was not engaging at all, which detracted from the overall experience. For a restaurant that many people visit for special occasions, I feel bad for those who think they’re getting an authentic Japanese meal.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend wasting your money here. The restaurant owners seriously need to address the dismal standards if they want to offer anything close to an authentic and enjoyable Japanese...

Literally, the worst Japanese my whole family has ever had. I feel so sad that people pay good money to come here and dine, thinking this is what Japanese food is like. Plsssss save your hard earned money 😭😭 even someone were to pay us to come here to eat, BYE. NEVER.

CHAWANMUSHI WITH CALAMANSI??? why is there chopped vegetable like that in the chawanmushi??

If it comes in a set, why’s the soup a chopped cabbage soup, not miso soup??

The worst was the fried rice. Why would you crack 8-10 eggs onto wet rice and make it SO MUSHY. literally 10 pax of us were so disgusted, we barely even ate.

Bean sprouts on the teppanyaki grill? GROSS. became so black and mushy after.

Scallops could’ve been salvaged if they just did normal butter with a tiny pinch of salt, but GOD. they managed to butcher that as well…. ✋🏻 idk what’s with this restaurant and over seasoning everything. No joke. so heavy handed with the salt, pepper, MSG and sauces. it’s scary.

we paid over 500SGD worth for 10pax, and 10000% regret.

Don’t think any of the chefs here have even had proper training. Honestly? It’s just sad. The management needs to take a trip to Japan and really learn what real Japanese food is like. Cuz it’s not even like a Filipino take on Japanese food. It’s just....

We came as a group of 3 but they only gave us one menu. We had to ask for more but no one would pay attention until after 4 minutes of asking. What looked like the senior waiters would keep coming at our table to ask if we were ready to order-- when ideally we could just call them when we're ready. They only alerted us about the dessert that came with a meal only after getting the bill. The food was good but service was so terrible, I'd rather look for other Japanese restaurants to eat at with better service and food at the same price.
