My husband booked via "Direct Message"(DM) as we tried calling them to no avail. When we DM them we had some questions re bar bites but didn't answer it instead just said provide our details and that’s it.
We turned up to the venue with some of our shopping bags as we are tourists from Australia. The security guard was polite to tell us that "he didn't know if we are allowed to come in as my husband was wearing sandals". He asked someone inside and said to us it's a smart casual but next time wear a proper one.
First of all they don't have a website saying some information about the restaurant they just relying on Facebook but even FB there's no saying about dress code, when we DM and exchanging messages they didn't advice us with that.
After a few discussions they let us in and still a bit quiet us we came 7pm but the lady staff put us on a table in an isolated space behind the bar and we can't see the stage for a live band. I felt they trying to give us a table that no one can see us of what are we wearing. We asked the hostess if we can sit on a table where we can see the stage as that's the reason also why we picked that restaurant for a live band but the hostess said "NO" to us. I couldn't understand what she said that they have threshold.
We booked and came in early and still a lot of empty table where we can put us on a nice spot but they didn't bother to checked on it. So, we said will just come back next time and still the hostess didn't make an effort to do something instead just said "Okay". In my opinion this restaurant is crap and the staff judgemental. We saw on some reviews that it's expensive and food serving is not generous but we still give it a go. And they have a terrible communication with their guest. They should also train their staff un better...
Read moreSublime madness...inspired mayhem...this is how I would describe this place...
Yes, admittedly, the bands that played the night I returned to Strumm's after decades were simply great (Highway 54 and Soul Sisters)...this place can really discriminate (in a positive note) on what will work and what will fall flat and it's a good thing Strumm's has kept up to harnessing what really works.
The off-est part is the crowd...it feels a bit strange to see a club full of people who were brought up during the dazed but wonderful 80's (me included) trying so hard to recapture their lost youth (this ain't the place dears!)...then you see a few geriatrics (though not bad if they want to have fun), a few toddlers (yes! toddlers...I bet they will keep this experience forever and will be telling their future psychiatrist how they have been traumatized by loud music, flashing lights and a bawdy crowd during their childhood!) and a few millenials who seemed to be confused on what's going on but showing neutral amd bland faces in which they are good at.
Gone are the days when everyone would at least have the effort to dress up when clubbing...or observe social rules when in a club...yes, we had rules during our time and showing off zumba moves(while also geared up in that garish zumba attire...really?!) or gyrating as if in front of a tv camera (see how those afternoon variety shows affect our culture!) aren't part of those rules. KARNABAL, to put it mildly, is a word that comes to mind to describe the place.
I don't know if I am having a culture shock after not being in any club for a long time but this Strumm's experience tells me to totally retire from this type of scene! But I don't blame Strumm's and this is business...and anyone is welcome as long as you...
Read moreIf you google on the web page for the best live band venue in manila, Strumm's will probably appear as the most highly rated choice. Been a regular patron of live band venue, I decided to walk in to Strumm's on my first day weekend trip to manila. I arrive at the venue around 9pm, most of the tables were already occupied or under reservation. We were assign a small table that was right in the front stage. The crew or waiters were friendly and service oriented. There was also a wide choice of food and alcoholic drink varieties on the menu. Price of the food and drink were reasonable. The live band starts at 9:30pm. There were two bands playing on that Saturday night with the band rotating and each doing two sets for the night. Each performance set is about 45 min. The change over interval between the two bands was quite fast about 15 min, so you get to enjoy non-stop live music for the night until 2am. The performances for the two live bands were decent, singing a combination of oldies and latest pop songs. The standout from the venue band I observe was they were able to engage the audience to participate in the dancing while belting out high tempo tunes. As we understand from the crew, from Thurs to Fri, there will be two bands playing on the same night while from Mon-Wed, only one band playing per night. There is no cover charge but there is a minimum billing charge of 800 peso. I would rate Strumm's as one of the best live band venue in Phillipines. Recommend all live band lovers to experience this place if you...
