A Japanese Gastronomic Haven in Paradise: “ Kombu” restaurant in Boracay Island
Kombu, the Japanese dining gem nestled in the tropical paradise of Boracay Island, is nothing short of a delight for epicureans and beach-goers alike. Its perfect balance of authenticity and innovation in Japanese cuisine makes it a must-visit for anyone stepping onto the powdery white sands of Boracay. The journey starts with the restaurant's inviting, warm atmosphere. The contemporary design, with a perfect fusion of traditional Japanese aesthetics and modern accents, exudes an air of sophistication and comfort. The attentive and knowledgeable staff adds another dimension to the dining experience, ensuring every customer's needs are met with a friendly smile and efficient service. Now onto the star of the show – the food. The Gyudon, a quintessential Japanese dish, was exceptional. The harmonious blend of perfectly cooked rice, succulent slices of beef, and the melting egg yoke and just the right balance of sweet and savory sauce led to a dish that was comforting and satisfying in every way. The Ebi Tempura, a classic favorite, was a revelation. The prawns were incredibly fresh, large, and juicy, while the tempura batter was light, crisp, and not overly oily. Paired with the subtly tangy tentsuyu dipping sauce, every bite was a burst of harmonious flavors and textures. The Tataki Salmon deserves a special mention. The careful balance of searing and raw freshness allowed the inherent richness of the salmon to shine through. The ponzu sauce added an excellent citric tang that heightened the flavors, creating an almost addictive combination. The drink selection, the owner is good at hand makes coffee and they bake their own coffee bean, complemented the dining experience to perfection. In conclusion, Kombu is a symphony of taste, a visual feast, and an experience of Japanese hospitality at its finest. Whether you're a devoted fan of Japanese cuisine or a curious first-timer, Kombu promises an unforgettable dining journey amidst the breathtaking beauty of Boracay Island. This is, without doubt, a culinary experience not...
Read moreUpon reviewing the reviews before coming here we expected high quality Japanese food.
Came here for lunch today (1pm) and expected high quality Japanese food. Ordered the ramen, cold udon, two sushi sets and the coconut latte. Great restaurant atmosphere and decent service but food however gave us food poisoning the day of. Right after consuming from here, I had gotten a stomach ache thinking it was from seasickness earlier that morning when I went to parasailing but it was actually the food poisoning from here. Later on the day I started to feel ill, weak and nauseous. I didn’t think much of it so I just rested in bed, until my partner got sudden diarrhoea. He told me it might be the Japanese food which it was because we then both realised it was food poisoning from here. The food quality here was off and not up to the standards. It had ruined our last day in Boracay and very upsetting because we couldn’t do anything but be bedridden and sick. Would not recommend this place and will definitely not be coming back.
Coming from someone who is from Australia and has traveled to Japan, the food here is definitely not authentically Japanese and needs a whole learning lesson with the chefs at this restaurant. Whatever ingredients they are preparing into the foods here...

It is being created artificially as the employees of this place exchange “surprise gifts” for a 5 star rating on social media platforms, including Google. I believe this is very unfair. Nevertheless, I didn’t agree to post a 5 star review as my opinion cannot be bought. The service is fine, waiters are polite and friendly. The price and quality is the biggest issue. This place is not cheap and the food is average. Both types of Maki we ordered were completely plain and tasteless. The portions are rather small. The restaurant is full of smoke coming from the kitchen, so there is no fresh air. They ran out of several dishes (no grilled oysters, no fried octopus, etc.). The biggest surprise was that in the end it turned out they did not accept credit cards, we were not warned about it before ordering. Luckily we had our last cash with us. Overall, it’s a quite average experience. In any local buffet you can have the same or better quality food and way bigger portions considering that we paid almost 1k per person. Therefore it’s 2/5 from...
