huey ying is one of the top restaurants inside the Paluto Market {Paluto means "Please cook for me" ) in Macapagal Blvd.
they are so popular that they do not need to have people go outside and harass people coming in the area unlike other restaurants.
Thy are very popular for a reason.. they are one of the most consistent and fair restaurants in the area. I have been eating their food for 10++ years now and the taste have never changed.
You can go and buy your seafood outside and bring it to their restaurant.. or the PROTIP if you're a tourist and this is your first time in the seafood market.. you run the risk of being gouged at the market area by vendors preying on tourists.
Just go to Huey Ying and order from them directly, They will just charge you a fair market price and charge accordingly. They know what to buy and know what to serve you. Just tip your waiter properly after. (100 to 200 extra, and this is outside the tip for the whole restaurant)
some of the dishes to try :CRAB or LOBSTER SOTANGHON. Crab or Lobster with Spicy Glass Noodle. (Crab is good enough) Extra Noodles, Extra Sate sauce, Extra Ginger. Extra Chilli if you want.
The lobster - cooked two ways, Sashimi and the head can be turned into sotanghon like above. (Super $$$ though)
You can also turn the head into Congee as well if you like.
Shrimp Tempura.. Oyster Cake, the adobong pusit is their hidden specialty, but it isnt for everyone. It's Squid cooked with ink and vinegar (chilli is optional. LoLs)
Mussels or Clam Soup.
Steamed Fish.
Give this place a try. you wont be disappointed! Just be patient if they have a full house. Come during off peak hours if you can. You are allowed to bring your liquor in as well. Possibly with corkage fee, but most probably no fee...
Read moreThis restaurant is in “Dampa”. That being said, this area is often packed, messy, without proper roads and parking. This is the “culture” of places known as “dampa”. It is a wet market full of fresh catch from the sea from all over the country. And vegetables, fruits from farms where you can have nearby restaurants cook them for you for your meals. Quite a novelty to dine here and not for the faint at heart. But this is in Asia. So there is a lot of texture in the dining experience.
We dined one evening while it was raining. No proper drop off Points, no easy parking except the area at the back seemed ample. Although not well lit, the car park seemed safe.
Advise the server ahead of time, if you prefer no MSG/monosodium glutamate in any of your food. And they will advise the kitchen.
How it works : while outside the restaurants ( and there are dozens of them ), go market for the main ingredients in the stalls. Take note of the prices. Before entering the restaurants, all that you bought will be weighed. Cooking price is charged separately. Payment is made once only for both restaurant and marketplace. Use of credit card is extra of about 3% for purchases made outside the restaurant. A bit unusual but not brain draining.
We were 12 and our total bill came to just under P8000, minimal refreshments. We also didnt order crabs...
Read moreI’m amazed they were able to timpla all our dishes appropriately as well as cooking them with the right doneness. Here’s our selected paluto dishes: steamed suahe, lato with onion and tomato salad, tausi elephant shell, black pepper bakla crab, jumbo green lobster sashimi, sugpo tempura, fried maya-maya head in sauce, lobster head sotanghon, chopped papaya dessert.
A great feature from this restaurant is if the dish served requires a dip or sauce, they’ll give an individual bowl of sauce to each person in the party. Each of us in our party of 9 got 3 sauce bowls containing: soy sauce with chili and green onions (for the suahe), soy sauce with wasabi (for sashimi), tentsuyu with grated radish (for the tempura). I also appreciate the convenience of a giant bowl provided for discarding the shells and emptied regularly.
The seafood stalls fronting the row of restaurants as you enter the main entrance gate are probably more expensive than the inner rows of seafood sellers where we chose...
