I would not reccomend anyone to go there, unless they want the worst service possible. I went to Spiz with a group of colleagues recently, we were 9 people. After we were seated, we waited around five minutes for the menus. Once we got these, not even five minutes later a waitress was there and told us she had to take our order now and could not give us more time to decide. So we ordered drinks and some appetisers and main courses. The drinks and the appetisers arrived fast. After the appetisers were finished and the plates collected again, we waited nearly one and a half hours for the main course to arrive. We asked for our food several times and were always told that it would arrive soon. The waiters (there were at least 4 in our part of the restaurant that night) did not come to our table once to ask whether we wanted another drink, while some other tables with groups were fussed over and always had at least one waiter close. They even did not react to waving and calling for them most of the time. When we had waited nearly 1,5 hours for the main courses to arrive, one of my colleagues asked for the food again. At this point we were all ready to leave, if the food didn't arrive in the next five minutes. The waitress then said they would serve us immediately, so we decided to stay, which turned out to be a mistake. The food was not prepared lovingly, the potato pancakes with mushroom sauce only had a tiny amount of mushroom sauce and the pancakes were certainly not home made. The pierogies dough was much to thick and the fillings bland. The meat was generally well prepared, but the sides missed spices. After seemingly ignoring us the whole night, the waiters were then very fast to take away the plates again. Not even asking whether people who had food left on the plates were finished (one wasn't). When the check came, it was certainly on the more expensive end of the scale and certainly not worth it. There are many more and much better restaurants close to Rynek and the service in this one was so horrible that I can not recommend anyone...
Read moreWe visited Spiż about 10 days ago. It's been recommend by someone who has been there many years ago. Well, apparently a lot has changed... It's situated in the middle of the old town in the cellar. The first impression is you get into... a shop with ultimately expensive (same price as in restaurant or higher) beer. This welcomes you before you even enter. The interior is interesting but that's all about it. Staff there likes to ignore you even when it's quiet. After asking waitress if we can replace spices (my wife does not like those) in the beer with some spoon of honey or so she informed us that the beer is honey flavoured. Fair enough even though this beer cost 12pln ( one of the most expensive prices in Poland including Warsaw). Nevertheless the warm beer had some smell of... dirty socks. Do they never wash dishes and pots...? The sour cherry beer tasted average at most and you can probably buy better one in Żabka shop around the corner. After that despite of seeing me calling for a cheque, I had been ignored by the waitress passing by !next to me. Not even a nod of acknowledgement. After 15 min of waiting I counted what I owe for this miserable expericence and put money on the table. While I was leaving another waiter arrived and brought a bill. I had to point at the exact money on the table (sorry no tip, fair...
Read moreOk. Here is my review, idk if you guys will find it worthy given the reputation of this place, Sorry if this sets u back. Not exactly the best experience I had here with staff ever since I walled in. They made me wait 5 mins in an empty restaurant, where the manager was more keen to talk to the waitress than come over to me or send her to attend to me.
No real warmth ever since I was seated, that too after a real ugly glance when I said table for 1 (as if I asked for his kidney). I won't have even reviewed this place had it not been for their duck and dumpling thing that I was forced to order (again was mislead to by being sold an expensive item as a 1 person dish, compared to other lesser expensive but for more people).
Was surely not world class, as it was heavily salted and I kept eating the bites with swags of beer to swallow. But even then it was good, considering the spices, the small dumplings, poached beet root and orange. This kind of gave it a unique dimension. Thus I am generously rating this place at 3 star.
PS: when I was about to post this review a woman approaches me, sits on my table, starts screaming and alMost slaps me. Throws my bill money around, while the waitress watched on. Good crowd and management...
