Café Montanha — Restaurant in Coimbra

Hands off! I would five 0 stars if I could. We ordered a coffee with milk and hot chocolate. The coffe was either instant or a second brew (difficult to guess), but in any case not drinkable. The chocolate was also instant, but acceptable. I returned the coffee and instead of an apology, the waiter made a long face and left without a word. After about five minutes a waitress came, informing that we do not need to pay for the coffee then, and brought a bill of 2,80 for the instant chocolate. This place was my first stop after arriving to Coimbra. Enjoyed a refreshment and dessert on the patio during a beautiful morning. It was full of locals and tourists, it was just beautiful to see the wait stuff happily interacting with foreigners making a great effort to understand and be understood. Our waitress was extremely helpful, smiling all the time, and extremely welcoming. Stopped at Montanha Cafe on a trip through the Baixa of Coimbra. As a Nata aficionado, this coffee shop has the best Nata I’ve had in the area. Perfect combination of flaky exterior, smooth custard, and that “oh so good” warm straight-out-the-oven feeling that I love. The cappuccino was perfection.
