Cica. — Restaurant in Funchal

This has become our go to place in Funchal. What makes it so good is the staff. There are two ladies in particular that are very special. One wears glasses, the other has a tattoo on her neck. They are so friendly and welcoming. Always a smile, always attentive. It’s cheap here, €2.50 for a big glass of wine and €3 for a snack. We’ve started coming every day. The only down side is the food is a bit hit and miss. The same thing can be good one day, not good next time. Example, same fish sandwich and a cod croquet was lovely yesterday but not good today. Croquet was served stone cold today and fish had black stuff in it, bits of not so nice fish. Yesterday, hot croquet and beautiful fish. We was passing by and there was a nice smell coming from the cafe we called in the staff was miserable we asked for a menu we was told you can have a pork sandwich or a toasties . So we ordered two pork sandwiches and two drinks, we almost got are for thrown at us , we started eating the sandwiches and they were the WORST sandwiches we have ever had there was so much gristle in them so we had to leave them, when we asked for the bill we was left waiting for about 15 minutes when we paid the bill eventually we wasn't asked if everything was alright or any comments about how much of the sandwiches was left. BEWARE sitting on the patio of this cafe, unless you want to be HIT BY A FLYING UMBRELLA. I was hit in the leg when one of their umbrellas came loose and they didn’t offer ice, bandages, anything - only to call an ambulance at my own expense. I hope ownership takes responsibility for ensuring the safety of everyone near their restaurant otherwise they may continue to be a liability to everyone that is visiting the market.
