Tucked away in the charming streets of Funchal’s old town, O Lampião is a true hidden gem. This cozy little restaurant, run by a warm and welcoming husband-and-wife team, offers not only outstanding service but also some of the freshest seafood we’ve had in Madeira.
We ordered the octopus, calamari, and tuna steak – every dish was cooked to perfection. The octopus was tender and flavorful, the calamari beautifully crisp, and the tuna steak fresh, juicy, and seared just right. Each bite reflected the quality of the ingredients and the love put into the cooking.
The atmosphere is intimate and authentic, without any touristy pretense – just great food served with genuine hospitality. If you’re looking for a special place that feels both local and personal, O Lampião is it.

The menu varies daily (hence there is no actual menu to have, what you see at the front is what you get on the day: can guarantee that you'll find fresh fish and local foods that you may not otherwise find elsewhere.)
One can try for a vegetarian option- simply ask and the staff will do their best to accommodate you, even if it's not chalked up on the menu at the front it never...
