Very disappointing service, during what was supposed to be a romantic night out on our last night in Lisboa. We wanted some nice white wine to go with the fish meal we were going to order. Not being into white wines, we wanted to taste one of them first. Our waiter seemed annoyed, but brought us the glass with wine to taste. He did not come back to the table to ask if we liked it. We did not like the wine, and asked his colleague if we could taste the vinho verde instead. She was going check it, but we had to ask her twice, still she did not bring the wine to taste. The first waiter came back to take our food order. We told him we would still like to taste the vinho verde before ordering a bottle. He rolled his eyes, got a very cranky face and said "try, try, try, that's all you want to do!" Then he walked away! Very shocking! Especially in a place where a cheap bottle of wine is 18 euros, very steep for Portugal! My husband went inside to ask what his problem is, and he acted like he had done nothing wrong. He did not apologise. We got a kind of apology from the manager, and stayed for our food. The Vinho Verde was good, the food was OK, but not special. The wine was 1 euro more than the price in the menu which was weird also. They do not except cards, so we had to find an ATM at the end of our meal! Very strange in 2022! They received no tip from us, can't believe a waiter can be so rude and still...
Read moreTo be honest, we didn’t even get the chance to eat there, so I can’t comment on the food. We went there together with my wife last night since we’ve got attracted by the name since we are both from Buenos Aires and we ask for a table outside. The female employee offered us one table that it was almost hidden and not really nice to have dinner. Since we were really hungry, and we didn’t like that table we chose to go to the restaurant next to this one, we were starving after a long walk. After sitting, we checked the menu and we didn’t like it at all, so we decided to go back to our original pick and came back to Cafe Buenos Aires. We tried to inform the same lady that we were going to wait for a table that was leaving and she interrupted us by saying “huh, you just went to sit in the other restaurant to take a nice picture and now you want to eat in our restaurant?” Leaving immediately after she finished her sentence. We didn’t have the chance to answer her since she left, and we didn’t have another option than leaving the restaurant. We found this completely disgusting, disrespectful and unprofessional. We really wanted to eat there and have some of our traditional food, but this was horrible. Just by the lack of service will never come back to this restaurant. Does not deserve its reputation if is not able to provide a basic...
Read moreA tricky one to review: great settings on a set of stairs linking streets with an amazing view and beautiful restaurants, plural - they have two sites a few doors apart. Each is really nicely decorated with lovely antiques and give the feel of a traditional Lisbon restaurant. However, the food is interesting and not totally in a good way. We had a mushroom starter and a shrimp and avocado cocktail. Both unconventional and strange if tasty. The restaurant is supposed to be famous for its steaks but ours were both "gamey" ie with a very strong taste. I'm hoping this is because they were hung for a long time rather than that they were a bit off. Also, we ordered medium steaks but they were really rare - something we have noticed in other places in Portugal so go up at least one level when ordering. Finally, not all the ingredients were as described on the menu - the mushrooms were button, not shiitake.
My daughters had the deep fried mozzarella (looked impressive but too bland) and an adventurous salad which was appreciated.
Service was good so no problems there.
I wouldn't want to put people off completely as it will no doubt please many but things could certainly have...
