I wanted to hear fado, so I and wife looked on the internet different places and we decided to give a try to Duque da Rua. First, i message place via facebook, on the same day around 1600 and asked if they have a place for two of as, and within a few minues i got replay, Yes! So i was very happy about it (on wed.) Next we came there and they had reserved a nice place for us (we came around 19:55). First, place is not too big, so it is very good if you want to see the artists very close and feel the fado singing as close as it gets, so it is great, but second the prices are resonable for live fado performace, especially for surprises wr didnt expect! This place wont make you wait all evening, but fado singing starts approx., 20 min after opening, second, there is not just one artist, but on our evening we got to hear 6 different artists, where some of them at one point will fill fulfill your earthy needs and at one point will just start to sing and fulfilll your soul. Really nice evening! Food was more like snacks/tapas, but that is very good if you come to hear the fado and you just want to enjoy the drink and some snacks between a few short 10 minute brakes after at least 5-6 songs of fado! Definitly worth to go and have a nice evening, especially if you want to hear all sort of fado singing, from youth, more lively style to more mature, romantic and stronger, different voices in just one...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMyself and my partner went to Lisbon for a long weekend. On the first night that we arrived, our hotel recommended this fado bar. We were so impressed once we arrived. The bar is quite small which creates a wonderful intimate atmosphere. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Watching the owner/manager walking around was a pleasure as he interacted with different people in their own languages.
The fado band and singers were wonderful too. There are several different singers performing throughout the night. Every singer is so different in style. Some songs were comical while others were much more emotional. You donāt need to speak the language to appreciate the feelings behind each song.
On our last night we arrived again. It was very busy but the owner/manager remembered us and found us a seat. We watched a lot of people trying to come in but the owner tried to find everyone a seat even if it was only for half an hour. This place goes above and beyond to share the experience with everyone. The tapas was also delicious and the wine and beer were reasonably priced. We were there for several hours and had endless entertainment, 4-5 drinks each and tapas and the bill came to less than ā¬40 each night. I would highly recommend this bar for an unforgettable experience. Thanks again...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAt Duque da Rua I had a great fado evening. The whole event, lasting from 20 to 23, wasn't a concert, was more like an experience. Helder, the host, showed great hospitality, and the atmosphere was vibrant, but relaxed. I couldn't tell in the end if the waiters sang fado or the fado singers (or at least some of them) also served at tables :-) , and that created a sentiment of communion. There were 5 singers, some of them seemed more professionalized, and some more ārawā, but I found that rawness more genuine and real, I loved them all. The two instrumentalists were amazing. Food options are not so many (apetizers and drinks), but what we ordered was good quality for the right money. And⦠approaching vulgar subjects like money, I have to say that I had a wonderful evening and an authetic experience with⦠a lot less than what is charged in other places (I avoid to compare⦠but nevertheless), with fixed (high!) price and too much food. It seems to me that Duque da Rua is more of a place run of passion for music, good food and quality time, and not so much a business. :-) Thank you, Helder, for this...
