My attempt at fair and detailed review: Food corner by Marlene Vieira is one of the busier stalls consistently, so there is a bit of a wait. We never had to wait more than 15-20 minutes before our food pager goes off to tell us to claim our order. That is a testament to their efficiency. They are not a hawker stall, they actually attempt to plate their food properly as a full restaurant before serving.
Located at the North Eastern corner exits of the time out market. The experience at this place seems to vary based on past reviews but I can say that our experience there was great based on 2 separate occasions that we went.
If you see the number of customer that turn over at that place on a given Friday or Saturday evening, then you would be right to question whether you can get your meal within 1/2 hour at all. But they succeeded in this regard.
I think everyone should try this location due to their effort in even preparing "dish of the day" on their menu which showcases a wide variety of Portuguese cooking.
The dish of the day is adequately portioned, and is only 9 Euro for the dish, and 12 Euro for the combo (entree + beer/wine/bottled water + dessert). The daily dish is clearly displayed on their front logo board.
I cannot speak for others that say this is not good value, but that is "great" value in a heavily touristy area. Yes, we have been to restaurants here that charges "cover" to dine in Lisbon.
All in all, the sword fish risotto was one of the best tasting dishes I've had here. It looks simple, but the flavor was on point. After trying plenty of sword fish in Caribbean and in the US, I can say this was one of the freshest, at least on this occasion. The sword fish cubes were very fresh, lots of flavor, and the risotto screams umami without being undercooked and grainy or overcooked and mushy.
The cod and potatoes dish was also well executed. Just the right amount of olive oil with herbs, and mildly sweet hint of salted cod.
Their "salads" are all not the typical salad that we know, and people should know this. It is more like small appetizers with marinated veggies. They are "intentionally" prepared, and repacked in sardine tins, so it is not "canned" food as some reviewers claims. I have seen it done through the whole process.
Value of these salads is debatable, however. For their portion and taste, are probably on the expensive side compared to their entrees. I have tried 4 of them.
Their desserts are ok, but that is not their specialty nor do they claim so. 12 Euro including a custard cake is great value.
All in all, this restaurant stall created enough interest in me to wish to visit their full restaurant Panoramico when I...
Read moreWe spent an afternoon at the time out market. We had the most amazing food in Portugal and loved the many items we'd ordered at other stores in Time Out. We selected the Marlene Viera stand for our big dish because it offered a big variety. Also she's the only female chef represented at Time Out! We got a dish that had 5 snacks which seemed like an opportunity to try a lot of foods (why we went to timeout to begin with.) I really wish we'd gone elsewhere for our main dish. This was a giant disappointment. The dish was 18€ I believe. We were given a beeper and waited ~30 min, perhaps a bit longer. Yes, the market was busy, but we waited far longer here than the other places we visited, and it was way too long of a wait for the food we were given, which required almost no preparation. 3/5 snacks were cold salads. The mushroom with quail egg was very good. The beef sandwich was good but lukewarm. The octopus salad was the worst we had in Portugal (there for 3 weeks, we are a lot of it) with tiny pieces of octopus and a taste totally overcome with green pepper. The mussel salad was underwhelming. The chickpea salad was not flavorful and had tough chunks of unflavored fish it it. Really not a good dish. I don't recommend it. If they're using this dish to showcase all of their food items, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Truly, I was sad we'd spent lunch on our 2nd to last day there with so many...
Read moreThis stall probably had one of the longest lines in Time Out Market and I can see why. We stopped by on a Saturday at around 1:30. The line moves pretty quickly but you do have to wait a bit for your food. They have a lot of seafood options and it’s very reasonably prices. They also have different specials of the day for only €10.90. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share amongst four people. We had:
-Seafood rice – this was Saturday’s special. I thought this one was only okay. The rice was a bit too soupy for me and it could have used a few more pieces of seafood. It only came with one shrimp and maybe 2-3 clams -Grilled octopus – this comes with mashed potatoes. This was my first Portuguese octopus experience and it was AMAZING. The octopus was so tender. Even the tentacles were tender -Cod fish – this comes with spinach and mashed potatoes. This was really good, though a bit salty. But it was full of flavor unlike the cod (probably frozen) back in NYC -Cod croquettes – not sure if I tasted any cod in there but it was still good. The red pepper aioli was a nice dipping sauce -Roast duck leg rice with chorizo – this was a bit dry
This was our first meal in Portugal and it was a pretty good one. I would say stick to the seafood, and you’ll have a...
