The atmosphere of the restaurant is stunning and elegant, with pleasant lighting for comfort and to show off the dishes on the table. We went with the main experience and ordered some additional dishes a la carte. The tuna with caviar and tomato jelly was spectacular, as well as the scallops and “salmon cigar” that were part of the bento box in the first moment. The cocktails we ordered (including the mocktails) were also delicious. We ordered some additional rolls and tempura following the main experience, which were also very good. We did find several of the moments to be somewhat lackluster, including the quail egg on top of sushi rice served with truffle on top (only a rich flavor, not quite balanced and would have perhaps been better served over a small bowl of rice rather than in nigiri form). Some of the fish was also overwhelmed by the sauces paired with it, not allowing the taste of the fish to shine through. One of the guests in my party received their sushi with one of the pieces upside down nearly falling off the ceramic tray.
The staff was friendly and very informative about the dishes and with excellent recommendations for the sake that we had with our meal. However, they were rather inattentive given that the restaurant wasn’t at full capacity, but could have potentially been a staffing issue. We had to flag down staff from time to time, which is not a typical experience for a Michelin establishment. At one point we went to refill our own sake glasses as we hadn’t been attended to for about 15 minutes, and the staff member looked frustrated with us as they rushed over to take it from our hands and refill our cups. When we ordered our a la carte, the staff recommended parsing out the sushi before the tempura, but it was already quite late so we thanked him for the recommendation and asked them to bring everything out together. It could have been because the beautiful ceramics and dishwater are sizeable for how they present the pieces, but it felt like our request was dismissed. We had also ordered additional rice that was never brought when we ordered a la carte, but we were not charged for it on the final bill so we went along with it.
While the meal had some star standouts, we left perplexed as how this restaurant has a Michelin Star. It could perhaps be a cultural difference in how fine dining operates, but what we paid did not align with our expectations for a Michelin taste and experience. It would be interesting to try their other a la carte dishes and entrees which looked very good, but I would not order the...
Read moreThis was the most disappointing Michelin experience I have had in my life. We opted out of the tasting menu because other reviews said it wasn’t filling enough. We started off with the wakame salad, which was not bad but was lacking any depth. Next we had the whitefish ponzu which was not bad but also not impressive. We had the popular shrimp head broth dish which literally tasted like a cold paella but was also ok. For sushi, we had salmon nigiri, torched tuna, crab cucumber roll, salmon maki, and tuna maki. The quality of the salmon in the nigiri was honestly appalling. It was not buttery at all and even had the lower quality, darker parts of the salmon on parts of the fish. The torched tuna was delicious, and the only dish that impressed me. As for the other rolls, they were far from impressive and looked like I could have rolled them myself, with rice falling out, and uneven distribution of fish in the rolls. We also ordered the cod main, which was uninspired but fine. As for the desserts, we ordered the yuzu dessert and the white chocolate dessert. The white chocolate dessert had ice cream on it that literally tasted like cheese, and when asked the waiter said it was vanilla yuzu. Very confused on how such a strong cheesy taste originated from what was supposed to be sweet and fruity. The yuzu dessert was ok, but again really nothing to bat an eye at. The service also seemed very rushed and inattentive to our experience, even asking for a tip at the end of our meal which is a) unheard of at high caliber resturaunts and b) not the norm at all in Europe so we were taken aback. Nothing about this resturaunt struck me as Michelin-worthy, and I was very very disappointed. I truly expected so much better given the expectations I had going in. A waste of 400 euros, and I could have had a much more rewarding experience at a local...
Read moreThe lunch set is very affordable for a michelin star restaurant and that is sadly reflected in the experience. The tasting menu food is not bad- however, if I was a michelin inspector I would not have awarded it a star based on the taste of the set. The carabineiros sushi is delicious- would return for that. Unfortunately what let down the experience is the service. Firstly understaffed and hard to get something you need. Secondly I unfortunately had a reaction to the prawn (my throat started itching and I felt VERY cold after eating the prawn) I’ve never experience that before so was quite worried and asked the waiter but the response whilst polite did not really make me feel reassured/ like they cared (eg i told them I May be experiencing an allergy as my throat was swelling and could I have some warm water which they did bring, but not enough to warm me up and I couldn’t really find a waiter to get more water after that.) when the bill came the tip was requested in a way that felt rude and also higher than any other restaurant we’ve dined at over the last 2 weeks (we were told: you can give a 10/20 or 30% tip. (No enquiry as to whether I was feeling ok) This is the only restaurant that has delivered the tipping message in this way and frankly we don’t think the experience here deserved a tip at all (although we did leave the...
