Estafadores! I really normally don’t do recessions, but this place really doesn’t deserve the 4 stars it has. I was by myself and ordered a codfish cake (2,50€) which came cold and didn’t taste like much. The mussels which are a starter (17€!) were super oily and salty. All in all ok, but a bit overpriced for the quality. Now here it comes: when I got the bill they had charged 7€ more for the basket of dry, old bread and a few slices of dry cheese which they just put on the table without asking. I didn’t even eat it all (just like half of it) and they charged it all, making up a bill of 29,50€ (including a coke of 3€), for medium food and specially without telling that the bread and cheese I didn’t ask for was charged so highly. I told them I’m very disappointed and that I will not pay it; I left 23€ there and left. Turns out the lady’s followed me, harassed me, pushed me and started calling the police. After a long discussion I left them another 5€ there, which was definitely not worth it! All other good service I know would have apologised at the restaurant and taken off the stupid overpriced cheese and bread from the bill. And not make such a theater! Not worth it! Music was nice, but you can find it anywhere else, too. They ended up playing a CD because apparently the...
Read moreTuesday 22 April we were here. Food, and Fado without paying extra. When you sit down they quickly bring 3 bowls, bread, cheese and croquettes of bacalao. They tell you we have this. If you don't say anything they put it on your table and you have to pay for it. I ordered half a bottle of wine. After I had sent the bowls away the waiter wanted to uncork a normal bottle of wine at the table. I indicated that we had not ordered this and therefore did not want this bottle. You get a strong vibe here that they are always trying to sell you something. Then the food...potatoes from a bag from the wholesaler and fried, olives from a jar and the vongole, with braised pork. Definitly not braised as stated on the menu. Rather completely cooked pork from the previous day or at noon and reheated. The meat was incredibly dry and tough. This dish is absolutely not worthy of a restaurant, not even a dining table at home. Shame on you for serving this! If a dish is as bad as above, that says something about the kitchen. In addition, the service tries to sell you things. Unfortunately, you often read that in the reviews. This was by far the worst meal in Lisbon. Fado started at 8 pm when 4 tables were occupied. 3 songs and... break. We didn't wait...
Read moreI hope this review helps you with your choice. Having lived in Portugal for 18 years, I'm well-versed in the local customs and traditions. For over a decade, I've rented apartments specifically in this Alfama area and am familiar with countless restaurants, including their prices and food quality.
In all honesty, I'd never eaten at this particular restaurant before. Both the service and the food quality were just average. I ordered a plate of sardines and a small pepper salad without asking for a menu, and when it came time to pay, I was speechless. The sardine dish was slightly more expensive than in similar restaurants, but what truly surprised me was the cost of a small pepper salad. Most of the time, this kind of salad is included with the sardines, but here, they charged a hefty €9.00 for it.
These prices might be justifiable at night in restaurants that offer a Fado show and don't charge extra for the music, perhaps by slightly increasing menu prices. However, in this instance, it was a quick lunch during...
