Divine. A (not so) hidden gem nestled in a back street of Faro’s downtown area. Having been vegan for a considerable amount of time and having eaten in a plethora of vegan restaurants across the UK and Europe, from the cheap and cheerful to the mega expensive, Outro Lado reigns supreme.
This is, without exaggeration, the best meal I can recall eating. A seitan ‘lamb shank’ with a wooden ‘bone’, with accompanying vegetables. The stick is a creative masterstroke that would not have looked out of place in a Michelin star restaurant in London. Hearty, rich, filling and beautifully high quality.
This restaurant could charge double what they do (I pray that they don’t), because it is just so good.
Vegan alheira balls with gooey cheese, Francesinha with seitan and runny ‘egg’. Just an excellent experience in a calming, living room-esque setting.
The freshly-squeezed orange juice was gorgeous too.
Honestly adored this. If I’m ever in Faro again, I will be sure to return. In fact, I’m half tempted to fly into Faro after finishing work one day to get a better meal than I can get anywhere in the UK!

On the 2x occasions we visited, we received a verbal warning that children were not welcome, and if our child was not being ideal, we would be removed from the establishment. Ultimately, we felt judged and unwelcomed. It was odd considering that it was 4:30 PM, however, the patrons were more than welcoming of our toddler. Also, the nacho chips we ordered were stale, but luckily, our toddler ate them up. Great beer, but the no children rule should be revisited to promote a more inclusive environment for all types of people. We are thankful for the patrons of all nationalities who were kind to our toddler, and the rules should be adjusted to include families. After all it is a Catholic country and...

The barman was rude to us, for no apparent reason. The place empty, just another family having a beer and us, stress could not be it. It was about 5pm on a Saturday.
We sat, move a chair to be comfortable and the barman came and told us in a very rude tone and demeanor “do not move the chairs around. A very common thing to do on all pubs in this world.
We decided to take our money somewhere else after this. While leaving the guy shouted “really?!”.
Not sure what he expected after being rude to us. We are not going to sit and pay overpriced beers to a rude person.
Apart for the overpriced beers and the rude service, the place seemed nice and cozy. Such a pity....
